Welp, painted the first wheel today to see how it would look, it has 3 layers, a base silver, the enamel black, and transparent blue. For the most part it came out great, the masking tape garbaged up a bit of the blue soI'm going to redo it when I do the other three. I decided for the blue lip since I wanted something different and I'm a Honda-ass at heart. You can see the silver flake in the black and blue up close so here you go. ignore the 80 tons of garbage on the roof.

both wheels

HA! I actually stood infront of the red and blue cans for about 30 minutes at the store unable to decide between the two. I ended up going with the blue since I thought it offest the paint a little bit more and since i love the look of the blue lip when the wheel is in motion. Seeing as how it was so easy to use the transparent paint I might end up switching to red in the spring, but for now I'm going to rock the blue.

That black looks really good. And i agree with wvturbo2, the red looks better than the blue.

LOL its already done, hence the pictures ;). Again, the lip was DESTROYED, it took roughly 4 hours a wheel to just sand everything down. I know the colored lip isn't everyone's bag, but it is mine since I'm a dirty honda owner at heart ;)

thanks! Yeah i was really torn between red or blue, maybe in spring depending on how i feel about it then ill repaint the lip red to try it out. But for now, they are all blue ! I'll try to get some pics up later this week with all the wheels on the car, im in the middle of finishing the other three. For some reason each wheel has 1-2 pin holes where the paint wouldn't bond which is odd since they all used a bare metal etching primer and an adhesion promoter. I just can't figure it out for the life of me.

Dont do it. Black with polished lip is very classy, dont ruin it with bright rainbow colors.
Its a DSM, not a rolling carnival.

dsm + classy.... im so sick of hearing that shit. we dont drive a slr or 750i. you make it sound like we need to hop out of our cars wearing armani suits all day. theres nothing wrong with making things a little different. i dont like the blue so much but it would be different and what we need more of.

As far as the breaks, I don't think so, I might completely rebuild them and simply paint them black to go with the fresh lines and paint in the wells. Otherwise the big drive behind the unique painted wheels is that I've done some other things to the car to give it its own "flavor" so to speak. Battery relocation, custom wiring, the defroster and hazards are now in my ash tray, the bay is repainted and all the wiring has been moved, removed emissions, cruise, A/C etc. Basically all just the little things added together to make it a unique car.

Looks nice, where'd you get the color clear? I was thinking of painting some rota d2's I'm going to get with a clear red lip.

Looks great, I liked the blue myself but looks like im the first.

DSM=Classy. I cant believe someone actually said that. DSM's are cheap and plentiful. Ive never thought of a DSM being classy. 1g is the manly beast, and the 2g is the more feminine beast. Thats why I love the 1g, the 2g is too rounded.

You lay a silver base from duplicolor, which is made for this paint, but you could basically just polish the crap out of the lip to get the same effect, I coated mine because of the damage to the lip. After you have a silver/metal base coat, you lay the transparent paint. I didn't notice that much of a darkening from adding multiple layers. There are about 6-7 coats on each lip, but it looked that dark after about 2. After that, just use a strong clear, I choose duple once again since its rather resilient against damage and flaking. Adhesion promoter and primer is also a must if you are laying the base coat, or just the clear adhesion if you aren't using a base coat.

I'm going to be leaving mine blue due to my massive love of the Super Advan Three in black and blue.
