Hey guys,

I have a question, I'm stuck with my kid all week and my car is ready for paint. We wanted to start with it tonight or tomorrow but I can't find a baby sitter and legally I'm not allowed to leave my child in someone elses care while I have him for visits. Have you ever seen paint resportators for small children?

If I can find out and get it in this week that would be perfect but I'm not sure if they make them that small. I could just make it fit him using some rags and tape or something but I want to be sure he'll be safe. The shop we'll be painting in won't have a "safe" area and I really don't want to leave him alone since he's not even two years old yet.

How bad do you think the paint would be without one? I really like working on cars with him, maybe one day he'll take after his dad.....minus the jail time I did. haha, little rugrats.

Anyone else got kids that work in the garage with um?

How about you spend time with your son playing baseball or kicking a ball or going to the park or something he would rather do than work on a car and when he is back with his mother you can be irresponsible then? "Stuck" with your kid? Give your head a shake.

A paint respirator for kids? The reason you have never heard of one is because nobody is stupid enough to make one.

You're a tool dude.

That's great that you're unable to answer my question. Now please, be gone.

There's nothing irresponsible about having your child wear a the proper form of resperator. I just spoke with a supply house that had a similar request.

He wouldn't need the proper respirator if you were AT THE PARK.

"I had such a fun day with dad today at the body shop working on his car. I was so great I couldn't even breathe the normal air I had to wear a respirator! Standing there watching him paint a car was great. Then later I got to hang out in this room by myself. The park with other kids is boring glad I didn't go there.."

Dude you're a dumbass. :notgood:

I work on my car with my 3 year old, he helps me with zip ties, tape and handing over tools, but not with paint. I wouldn't recommend having a child around you when you paint. Depending on the age, you'll most probably have to worry about the kid taking his mask off while you paint. If the child breathes it, it will be harmful for his health, which is why no on makes a pain respirator for kids.

I suggest putting off the paint work with your kid and finding something else to work on the car while your kid is there.

I'm sorry. You must have mistake this thread for something titled as "Please advise me on how to raise my children."

Please move along. You're personal attacks are not welcome here and have been reported.

Well regardless I'm painting my car. I only have a small window of time to use the booth. I'm raising my child to be a skilled painter. Not a zip tie wrapper or tool handler. I appreciate your advise as much as Jims but I would really really appreciate advise on the question I asked. Are you aware of a small resporator for children?

Can we please keep this thread on topic.

I agree that the kid will most likely take off the resperator, thus only increasing the chances of causing himself harm.

I agree, find something else to do right now.

I agree that none of you have provided me with an answer that is on topic. Please hold your opinions for Dr. Phil audiance Q&A.

Maybe its b/c the answer that you want is one that no one will give you b/c its retarted.

Besides that, I don't think Dr. Phil would really approve of what you want to do, either.

And how can you say you are teaching him to be a skilled painter, at 2??? Get real dude.

To answer your question - No, I'm not aware of any one who makes respirators for children - most probably due to liability reasons. You have to be 18 to buy a can of spray paint, so why would anyone make masks for children under 18?

Raising your child to be a skilled painter and he's not even 2? WTF... He needs to learn to learn his ABCs, numbers and read first. Get your priorities right...

But since you are not listening to us - here, buy this... http://www.approvedgasmasks.com/child-smartaf.htm

Thats fine man. Great, so you don't feel my child should learn to paint cars. Well, when he's 7 and laying glass I'm sure he'll appreciate the early teachings his father gave him.

Spray paint doesn't require an organic vapor mask. You have to be 18 because hillbillies raise their children poorly and they insist on "tagging" the back of their local gas station.

That's a whole nother thing, don't even get me started on the ghetto.

All I'm saying is that at age 2, He'd probably much rather spend his days playing with friends or watching cartoons, rather than inhaling harmful toxins. I know I would.

Another main reason for the 18 law is that a lot of kids huff it to get high, which is also very stupid.

That's what the paint respirator is for. To prevent toxins. They aren't even that bad for you. Mainly a gov thing.

Anyways, I joined a forum last night for midgets and "little people", they pointed me to a small mask that works for them. They also understood my childs pasion for cars, unlike one or two of you here.

I ordered it from a 3M dealer. I guess it's a really nice mask that he'll grow into. We all know how quickly they grow when they're this young, don't we? It's hard keeping pants that fit on um.

Well, good luck with the project. Have fun trying to keep a 2 year old in one place while you are painting the car...

I find nothing wrong with having a child in the garage. Matter of fact my 3 year old son has been in the garage with me numerous times while painting, neither of us used a respirator the first couple times until I found a child size respirator.

Just take a look at some of your average corner gas station garages, I'm sure these auto mechanics who breath in garbage all day were brought up in the same enviroment and these guys are still kicking around, minus the crooked eyes and tiburculosis.

AW4G63 - To answer your question, yes they do make child size respirators, my local auto parts store carries them in 3 sizes and 5 different colors, even pink for the girls.

Ohhh I feel so violated!

Thanks for reporting me, how about we report you to Child Services for taking your kid into an environment where he could be seriously harmed? Nothing shows love like toxic fumes. Gather the whole family around! Mmmmm GOOD!. :tease:

Apparently your trying to loose your visitation rights are you?

You guys are being way too hard on a man who only wants to involve his child in his passion. I let my daughter help siphon race gas (since she loves straws so much) and my son is the perfect size to crawl under the car when I'm in a hurry and don't want to get the floor-jack out.

Plus, when you take the genetics into account, is it really going to be a big deal if the little nipper loses a few more brain cells to paint fumes?

ps. a wet paper towel and masking tape works great and has the added benefit of preparing him for interrogation (in case he goes al-Qaeda on you)

Sorry kid, Don't really care for your comments so I won't be reading them. Take your wise 12 seconds else where.

Thank you. Just trying to bond. Sorry if I don't know how to feed gease or play volleyball. I'm just trying to ensure my child is raised as a man. God forbid he grows up like a sissy and is stuck in the 12's all his life. :notgood:

I don't think Advanced Auto Parts carries real paint masks. Advanced Auto parts is for hillbillies with a 87 Skylark that has a hole in the radator. Not my car or my tools.

I'll post it when I get a receipt from them. It's 3M.

im going to guess that where u live at advance auto sucks but dont judge all stores. jesus. and you were complaining about getting flamed. calm down bro
