I just purchased my first DSM about a week ago. :hellyeah: I've been trying to trace a misfiring issue. I'm no stranger to auto tech, but this is my first experience with this kind of ride.
Basically when cruising between 2k and 3k rpm, the engine feels like atleast one cylinder shuts down. Car loses power and shudders like all hell. If I decel and let the engine rest for a few seconds, it goes away but then returns again.
After spending many hours searching the site for clues, I've gathered that it sounds like an issue with the car being a 98 with a 2g ecu and the engine being a 6bolt swap using the 6bolt cam pos. sensor. SO... what I need to know is, how best do I resolve this issue on a budget. I've read about the potentiometer mod, but I don't want to cause the car to run lean, and have also read about ecm link being able to block out the p0300 code which I've been reading with my obd2 scanner.
Is it possible to put a 1g ecu in a 2g car to correct this issue, or is my best beat shelling out the money for an eprom ecu and tuning it out myself with ecm link?
I would greatly appreciate any information you guy's have to share.
Thanks,
Shawn

My car ran just find using the pot mod (can't say if it was actually running lean, but it felt pretty strong during a pull).

But my suggestion would be to get either ECMlink (killing two birds with one stone as you're also getting a great logging/tuning solution as well) or look into Ceddy Mod since you have a '98. I believe his solution can get rid of the issue as well while not costing as much.

Link is always a good answer. and update your profile so we can know all the mods on your car. i had an issue like this and it ended up bein my ignitor/(power transistor). got so bad i had to start turnin the car of while goin down the highway then turnin it back on. would fix for about 10 mins then start up again.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure I've traced the problem down. as far as mods go, it's got a catless 3inch downpipe back exhaust, front mount intercooler w/ hard piping, and a 16g turbo runing 15psi. Still going over the car and finding new things. I purchased an openport cable and downloaded ecu flash and ceddy mods, but after trying to connect to the ecu with no luck, I pulled the ecu and saw it's actually a 95 ecu so it's not flashable. Previous owner said the car was being parted out when he bought it so I'm guessing the stock ecu was one of the parts that was gone. So now I'm trying to track down a 98 ecu so i can get this taken care of. Right now I'm just keeping my code scanner in the car so that I can clear the code soon as it comes up and it's been getting me around for the time being. THanks again guys.
