I picked up a newly built head for a reasonable price - it has 1mm oversized valves. Now my question is do the valves being oversized then change my piston to valve clearance? Do I have to be careful of what pistons I'm using with these?

I rather be careful before hand as oppose to checking the clearance later and finding that it won't work.

Also the head was machined on the deck side for a metal headgasket.

most aftermarket forged piston makers take in to account of the common use of OS valves and the reliefs should be cut for them.

but it ia alwasy good engine building to clay the tops of the pistons and check your valve to piston clearance.

Unless you are running a stroked block, and you have aftermarket pistons your clearance shouldn't be an issue.

Chances are you will see decreased performance from oversized valves. At any rate though run them and see what happens.
