Hey I got a 420a turbo with I have a heating problem. At 1st i thought it was my Temperature sensor so i bought a new one and it wasnt that. Then i thought it was my fan and then it wasnt that then i put new anti freeze and no so my question is can it be my radiator "i have no leaks" and also i dont know if my JE low compression pistons would matter in this situation? My friend told me that it could be oil mixing with the anti freeze WTF Also forgot to mention my fan sometimes does not turn on sometimes but even when its on it sometimes overheats any ideas what it can be?...

Whenever it starts to overheat check and see if the fan is on. My car will randomly just not cut the fan on and it will start to run hot for a while.

Does it over heat when your actually moving? Or just stopped

Replace your thermostat and the Radiator cap. 2 super common and super cheap fixes.

well whenever i am moving my car does not over heat. when I am stopped thats when it starts heating up if the fan is off. but when it does turn on it does not over heat.

Also I am pretty sure its not the head gasket because I just got it done replacing all the gaskets. And the thermostat i had just replaced it thinking that was the problem.

Yesterday night was a big mistake to drive my car. Here is the story.

It was late at night and very cold. So I decided to drive my car. I was driving for about 15 Minutes. I stop and check it the fan was on and it was. So I continued to drive. Then 5 minutes past and I was on the freeway and my car all of a sudden turned off. At 1st I thought it was my battery that made my car die out but my lights where still on. So I rolled my car to the nearest exit and popped my hood. I saw that My exhaust manifold where it connects to the turbo was Hot it had turned orange "thats how hot it was" I let my car sit there for 2 hours then. I tried turning it on and nothing happen. I tried about 3 times and nothing happen. I checked for any drips and found nothing. so then I had to go home in a tow truck.

I am thinking that it might be the starter or a fuse but i have no idea my manifold had never ever gotten that hot before. so any ideas what it could be?

well is it a log manifold, under high rpm and boost (like freeway driving) will heat that thing up VERY quickly. my stock manifold does that when it's raining outside and i start having some AWD spinning fun. how often do you pop your hood immediately after heavy driving.

but i'm not sure about the sudden shut off. let us know

Apparently you've never popped your hood in the dark before. Search "glow".

Check your timing belt, first. You may have jumped.

well maybe i never popped my hood when I drive it hard. But Why did it die on me. I still cant figure out why it does not want to turn on? can it be my starter relay or starter? or my coil Pack? or what? also forgot to mention my car just to stutter when i just to go over 4 thousand rpms if i didn't boost but if i did nothing happen it ran great can this be an issue?

anybody that has ideas please let me know. I can still hear the fuel pump when i turn the key but is there anyway that i can check it the fuel pump its a walbro 255

Have you replaced your thermostat and radiator cap as previously mentioned?

And as far as your car not starting, your not being very descriptive. A better way to put it is, what does NOT happen when you try to start besides the obvious. Does it not click when you turn the key? Does it not turn over? Does it not make any noises?

well I took the starter off and it appears that it does not work so i am going to buy one tomorrow. Also i have one question I noticed that the plastic where the timing belt is at was all torn up in a straight line where the timing belt cap is at close to the 1st spark plug is at. the timing belt is still there its not riped. can it be that it jumped when the starter gave out.

Its torn up from the outside in, or from the inside out? I believe you may have thrown an accessory belt and it hit against the cover. But you should inspect the timing belt thoroughly and make sure your still in good time.

And you could also go ahead and provide us with a lucid description of the symptoms.

ok well it was torn from the inside out. Also i bought me a new starter and it was not the problem? so any ideas? can it be my coil pack or some wirings?

Ok, first off, you need to tell us what its doing or what its not doing. When you turn the key to the "ON" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime? When you turn the key to the "START" position, does the motor turn over or does it just "click".

You need to be as descriptive as you can so we can help as much as possible.

If its torn up from the inside out, I would say your timing belt snapped.

When I turn the key the fuel pump turn on. Also I did the key dance i thinks thats what its called to check the engine code and this number came up 125455. I searched to see what it meant but i have no idea? Also when i turn the key The Alternator bands spin but the timing belt does nothing it does not even move.

Cel code 12 Results :
Reason : direct power input to the PCM has been disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles

Cel code 54 Results :
Reason : No cam signal at PCM
Possible Solution : camshaft position sensor connector and sensor

Cel code 55 Results :
Reason : End of error messages

Sounds like your timing belt snapped. That would explain why your car just died on the road.

Well the timing belt still looks like if its on when I turn the key it sometimes moves a little. so how do i know if its actually the belt? im going to post a video up

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DoT9TZjW7bk&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DoT9TZjW7bk&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> THE TIMING BELT SOMETIMES MOVES A LITTLE AND U CAN HERE THE FUEL PUMP AND ALSO YOU CANT REALLY SEE WHERE THE PLASTIC IS TORN UP BUT IT TO THE NEAREST RIGHT.

Your problem is obvious, your timing belt should be moving but it isn't. Start removing all the plastic guards and inspect everything (crank, tensioner, idler pulley and belt). Thanks for the video, that helped.

Is it easy to install your own timing belt? has anyone done it them selfs? If so can I get some pictures or instructions on how to do it. thanks

Installing a timing belt by yourself? That's damn near impossible...

Search around a little... depending on your mechanical prowess, you could complete the job in a day. However, you best do a little diagnostic work to make sure none of your valves are bent. It's rare to see a car with a broken timing belt escape other damage.

Could the water pump be the cause of my unsolved over heating and the cause of the timing belt that broke?

1. Oil change, check for milky fluid... if it is then replace your headgasket... if not go to #2
2. Fix your timing belt
3. Replace radiator cap
4. Replace thermostat
5. Test car out and get back to us on results

Yes, it could.

After you remove the timing belt, spin and wobble the water pump sprocket. It should spin with even resistance, and should have no noticeable play. Inspect for wetness under the pump's sprocket as well. If any of these occur, replace the water pump.

If the water pump turns freely with even resistance, there is no noticeable shaft play, and no water from the weep hole, the pump is likely not at fault.
