i have a 92 eagle talon tsi awd and a month ago it overheated severely due to loosing both the alternator and power steering belt on the highway, i replaced them and only noticed 1 side affect, even with the car cold, as soon as you start it, coolant violently erupts from the water neck with the cap off even at idle. I let it go for a month and saved up money for an mls gasket, cams, studs, and dsmlink. Today on my way to drop it off to get the new head gasket and everything installed, i was going about 50 in fifth gear and all off a sudden it felt like the clutch was slipping and the engine was bogging at the same time and if i hit the gas it felt worse, then i down shifted to 4th and it was the same, i let go of the gas pedal and the car shut right off. I tried to start it up but all i get is the sound of the starter spinning, and the timing belt still goes around, but there's no life to it, like there's no compression i guess. also a few hours leading yup to the big blow, i noticed a sound like a scraping sound or a sound of escaping air coming from the cylinder head. Any ideas would be great , a compression test will be done soon, again the vehicle is stock, no mods, did i blow the head gasket so bad it wont even start? or did i blow something else, when the car did this it never over heated or lost oil pressure and i checked the coolant and there is no oil in it, and i checked the oil and no coolant in it , and neither are low, actually the oil is a little higher then it was a few hours ago, thanks for the help - dave

You had a blown head gasket in the begining. When you keep driving a car on a blown headgasket, generally it destroys the motor.

I've been driving my Saturn SC1 on a bad headgasket for over 20,000 miles. It just burns oil like nobody's business and has slightly less than the 120 or so horses the dual cam engine normally has.

It all depends on how the headgasket failed. Yeah, if the car is loosing coolant, mixing coolant with oil, or overheating you shouldn't drive it. But the SC1 has 208k on the chassis, Slightly less on the dual cam swap, and about half that mileage on the current headgasket. And a 1/5th that mileage was after the headgasket failed.

Yeah it sounds like your going to need some tlc. I had some bad problems with coolent on my old talon and it was dripping down the block because i just kept driving and driving it with a bad gasket. I would do some major maintenance to your car

I will jump on and agree with the rest of the "blown Head Gasket" bandwagon.

sounds like your taking it to the shop to have the repairs done. Hope they understand the DSM well.

Make sure that when the head comes off that the head is properly checked out and machined.

you said that you will be running a MLS head gasket, the surface finish of bot the block and head is very critical. If they are not the way they need to be, there will be sealing issues.

personally if it was mine, and takinging it to a shop for repairs, I would use a composite head gasket.

some info for you to check out.

first thing to do once the head off is.....

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/341627-how-check-head-warp.html

since you said the head ran hot... I would have this done...

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyl...how-aluminum-head-pressure-tested-cracks.html

and this will let you know what will needed to be done for a MLS Head gasket

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...face-4g63t-cylinder-head-mls-head-gasket.html

and no matter what do not.......

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyl...0613-why-not-let-your-head-belt-surfaced.html

also you may want to have this done.......

Make sure that the shop FOR SURE machines the head as well as the block if it was warped due to the over heating. If your car over heated like that and you kept driving it, you most likely warped the head and block.
