So I bought the eBay special coilovers, and a spring compressor, I have never played with suspensions or lowering kits for any car so its all new to me. But how in the hell do I put these in ? I understand the basics , compressor the spring , take the nut off then the spring , blah blah blah. But the size difference in between the stock springs and the coilovers is huge, like a gallon jug compared to a small water bottle, I searched around to try and find a tech article but I had no luck.

<a href=http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/?action=view&current=IMAG0366.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/IMAG0366.jpg border=0 alt=></a>

<a href=http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/?action=view&current=IMAG0364.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/IMAG0364.jpg border=0 alt=></a>

I assumed when I bought these, it was like. Compress, switch springs and compress again and voila , is there custom fab required? Do I need the take the perch off of the stock unit? Or does the bew spring sit inside of it ?

Started taking out my suspension, of course the bar in the back is right over top of the nuts.. after some wrenching , i got the driver out. And of course everything was going way to smoothly, the passenger side wont come off at the bottom. I sprayed with pb blaster, pryed and beat it with a hammer.

The Screws are used to mount the threaded/hollow cylinders to the shock itself. ;) It keeps it stationary.

those little set screws arent the only thing holding this together right? the pressure from the the spring should be sufficient?

Don't do it man! That's what I told my buddy Dave, and three years later his ebay junk kit is still sitting in the box. The pieces of crap are so bad they weren't even worth sending back. He bought some Sprint lowering springs for $130 off ebay and ran those instead. (they fit the perches)

Don't cut your perches off! They don't hammer off, on a 1g they are welded, and if you cut them there's no going back. You will regret putting those on your car. Even if you don't die, you'll be driving around wondering why you bothered to put in any springs at all!

I'm in love with that car for some reason. Wanna just... put it back together and trade it for a stroked 2G? ;P

And yes, other than the pressure... those are pretty much it. That's what we're trying to warn you about.

yea the longer springs go in the front because the front in heavier due to the engine, and my car was lowered on springs when i bought it and it is a rough ass ride theres been a couple times on the freeway were the back of my talon moved so bad it ive almost hit people :(

just so you guys know, i have two sets of front and two sets of rear, extra(not including on the car) if it turns out they are just absolutely unbearable, i will figure something else out. but this is a track car. i dont drive it on the street hardly at all. anywhere i go , i usually have my year and a half old daughter, and i would never put her in this thing.. HAHA

Those things will pound the crap out of your chassis.
are you talking about these exact springs? do you know which brand they are? or are they all the same?. these were 57$ shipped if they are garbage i am not going to cry, but i have had a car with cheap ebay springs, they weren't too bad

Mind you i have a power steering rack without powersteering. now thats a pain in the dick for street driving , AND a welded diff. you can forget about any tight corners at low speed, shit isn't going to happen.

aren't all coilovers like this? or utilize set screws?

They look the same, but I don't know the exact brand.

We also wondered which were front and back. Regarding the original springs, rear ones are actually taller than the fronts, so I don't know if that makes it any more confusing for you. The ones you are installing will actually rattle up and down a good couple inches on a fully extended shock, so they look really funny when the car is on a lift. In my experience they don't ride or handle worth a crap on most cars.
I usually see them on riced out Hondas that slam on the bumpstops, have four different brand worn out tires, with the aftermarket front bumper smashed to bits, and that need about a dozen new suspension bushings. Maybe I'm just jaded. Anyways, they might be ok on a straight line only car that never really sees the street.

Ps. His were around that price too, so we didn't even bother sending them back since half of that $57 was shipping and handling anyways. Keep in mind that's a $30 (full set) of springs.

Just sayin' don't cut your perches off, unless you have a spare set of shocks. I wasn't about to modify a brand new $600 set of AGXs to use that junk.

i hate to admit this but back in the day when i had no cash and was starting out with my dsm i did used a set like this. worst thing i ever did. car handled like crap was not fun driving and made a lot more noise. because of so much play with the springs. you know coilovers cost like 1000 and some people see that as aolt but if you REALLY think about its cheap. if memoey severs me correctly kby agx go for some where around 400-500 for an entire set. then springs depending on what you get go form 100-200 and then if you need mounts where theres pretty much the rest of it. bottom line you get what you pay for

if somebody would be so kind , as to chime in and say for sure if i have 2g springs instead of 1g , so i can contact the seller asap! please!

I'll offer as much help as I can. I won't criticise you. The red rubber parts go on the top of the strut. The o ring goes between the threaded black part and the strut on the bottom.

Usually the coilover sleeve kits are all universal and will work on any car and they all look the same

That looks like you have them stacked the right way, and the orings would be spacers to hold the sleeves tight because they probably fit loosely around the body of the shock/strut.

Don't take my posts the wrong way; I don't mean to crtisize, I just don't want you to die instantly.

On the subject of dying instantly, you aren't seriously considering using that as a spring compressor are you?

Ps. @Yoshi, the ones you linked to are not adjustable, therefore are not one size fits all. The adjustable ones are for 90-99. (or any other car for that matter)

If I wanted a full set of springs for less than $70, I would have maybe gone with these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-...its=Model:Eclipse&vxp=mtr&hash=item5d30fce6cf
However they are not adjustable.

This is what my friend ordered after we opened the box of adjustable junk ones and laughed.

@OP Why don't you post here and let us know if you haven't been killed by your spring compressor yet!

I would still try to use it. if its dosent turn out the way you wanted just send it back.

On the side note,...People making fun/criticize this dude need to lay off. Quit trying to change people's opinions. Help him install these coil over and let him be happy.

I for once run ebay coil overs on my 92 eg civic and not once i had problems. Rule of thumb is, if you not had experience with ebay coil over shut the h up.

I am just tired of people in these forums try to talk shit and not one actually had experience with the products. I am talking to everybody in general and i am not targeting one particular person here.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to critisize. I have lot's of experience with these kits because I own an auto repair shop, and I work on these things and see cars come in with those springs all the time.

I don't think anyone is trying to be disrespectful or poke fun. Those springs are really crappy, and that spring is going to shoot out of that vise and do damage. Why do you think the OP hasn't posted since the "vise" picture? He's probably in the ER.

Seriously, once you take the nut off the strut, then what? Is there another vise? If it hasn't launched yet, is someone actually going to attempt to loosen that thing to put the second strut in?

To answer your last few questions;

"is this the right way they're assembled?" - YES! those rubber O-Rings definitely help with keeping the threaded sleeves in position and just a quick tip, use all the ones they provided you leaving the larger one at the top of the sleeve (makine a seal) so as to avoid collecting dirt and water inside the sleeve.

"do I wait for the spring compressors?" - YES!!!!!!! YOU CANNOT USE A TABLE VICE TO PROPERLY RELIEVE THE STRESS ON YOUR FACTORY COILS IN PLACE OF SPRING COMPRESSORS!!!! In a sense, It's good that you asked before starting to take them off. The spring compressors (2) are mounted on opposite sides of the coil and then compressed slowly going back and forth from one to the other. An impact gun works best here. *I almost thought you were kidding when posting the picture with the table vice*

Hope this is helpful!

oh and use anti-seize on those small allan key screws! you don't want to run into problems in the future!

Also, use your pb blaster to help install the rubber o-rings. Eventually the pb blaster will dissipate but it will help with installing them.

If you can salvage your dust boots, do so!

don't forget to trim those bump stops too.

just noticed the inner diameter of the red rubber top hat mounts WILL need customizing to fit the dampner rod (dowell)...you might be able to get away using an X-Acto blade if you're good with one, or a really fat drill bit. ;)

Having fun yet?
