I have both matte black and gloss white wheels for the eclipse. I really like the white. But it's all on ur preference.

But I have wet black on my be beetle and wet black looks amazing too.

Since the rims have a bad paint job, I suggest using plasti dip with the flakes. If the rims had good paint I wouldn't recommend plasti dip because it will mess up the paint.

Plastidip will destroy the paint?

Yeah it makes clear coat peel if u leave it on for too long. A lot of people don't believe me but I used to spend a lot of time in a bodyshop. And u wouldn't believe the things I've seen caused by plasti dip.

No longer then 2 months. I've seen clear coat peel on rims and complete paint peel from the body itself. Emblems can stay for longer without damage.
I feel like if the paint came off it wasnt done properly to begin with.

yeah im gonna do them black and the paint on the wheels now is plasti dip so im peeling that off and redoing it again thanks guys!!

Flat black would go with the spoiler and gas cap cover.

I did a set for my spyder with rustoleum truck bed coating out of a rattle can and they look pretty good.

Have you thought of charcoal grey / gunmetal ? I always thought that was a good subtle look

Have you considered powder coating instead of painting? I have done it both ways and prefer the powder coating because it seems to be much more durable than paint. I have done black chrome on my white 96 Eclipse and also on my silver 03 Evo and the color combo really looked good.

Just thought I would suggest it.

On rims I have used plasti dip, typical hi-temp paint, and had powder coating done before. Personally I'd say you can't beat powder coating. Like stated before, it's real durable and I think it looks the best. Only thing is though it's going to set you back some cash to have it done as this is the most expensive.

On the other hand, you can still have a really good looking set of rims with some standard spray paint. This option is the most time consuming and you need to do a lot of labor if you want it done right. Prepping is crucial and depending on your rim style and how good you want the finished product, there is a lot of sanding and cleaning involved. Also you just have to be a good painter in general. At the end of the day though, you can look at your rims with pride knowing you painted them yourself.

Plasti-Dip sucks. It gets great reviews and all of my friends love it but personally it's just not my thing. Every month or so you need to re-apply the rims from it flaking off and apparently as said above it can damage your paint too. The texture of it is sort of flakie and if you apply it correctly it can look halfway decent but overall I think it looks the worst out of all 3. The whole idea of it is pretty much a temporary paint job. But hey it's the cheapest way to go and worst case scenario it looks like crap in the color you choose or how you laid it on so then you just peel it off.

It all boils down to the condition of your rims and what you're willing to dish out for them to look good. As far as colors go I'd say a gunmetal look would be best but you can never go wrong with matte black.
