I have a build going with my 1997 eclipse gsx. I pulled the, what I thought has stock 7bolt and started to strip it to sell. Come to find out it already has ARP head studs, MLS headgasket and BSE kit but stock bottom from what I can see (will be put on a stand tomorrow to verify). I also just bought a stock 6bolt that I was planing on rebuilding and I have a 6 bolt flywheel and a few other parts to start the rebuild but I have not ordered any of the major parts yet. I was planing on just keeping the stock bottom end on this motor for the build

My question is should I rebuild the 6bolt or should I just put the 7bolt back together and back in the car and see how far I could go with it?

The turbo I will be running is a PTE 3431E, tuned with DSM link.

Depending on what hp you are wanting I would rebuild the 7 bolt. This would be less money buying new Arp studs and new HG and so on. That's my opinion. 6 bolt if your trying for over 750 hp. :thumb:

Id try to identify all of the aftermarket parts in the bottom end first. Maybe its got a decent forged set up already.

Did you have perform any tests to check the health of the engine? Compression test would have been a good starting point on the overall health of it.

From the looks this motor was just rebuilt, the thing is mint just on stock components, I was planing on cams, springs for the head. The motor was real strong when I drove it but thought it was bone stock. And I will be going for NO more than 500HP. Do you think that will work for a while. The rebuild must have been done in the last 5k.

And no compression numbers but it seemed very strong

You should Pm me a list of parts you had in mind for your build and see if we can help any. If you were up in the air on some things we can guide you in the best direction to make the power that you want, hopes this helps Allen @ SIM :thumb:

You should be able to get that on stock internals with some E85 pumping through her. You will need bigger injectors of course 1200cc or better should be plenty. I have been running delta regrinds since i have owned a DSM and i bought my Laser in 2005. I went with the 264 272 combo made great power. Now of course I am running 272 int and 272 exh. I would go with some 272's or 280's being your going to put better springs and retainers in.

Well Things keep getting better! I just got the transmission off and she has an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate on it! I just took my 6bolt of the engine stand and tomorrow the 7bolt will be going on it to look at the bottom end. For right now I will just be running 93 pump because I have no e85 anywhere near but I wont be looking for much more than 400hp on that and I only have 720 injectors at the moment. I was thinking some 275 regrinds from Allen over at SIM! And Im sending a PM now
