Opinion on an EVOIII 18G, ported comp housing, 15 degree clipped TD05 turbine etc.

Hey there,

I'm ran accross a good deal (i think) but i need proffesional opinion. custom turbo, brand new EVO III ported compressor housing, 18G compressor wheel, TD05 15 degree clipped turbine wheel, Ported 7CM2 TD05 turbine housing also got a 34mm flapper/ported also.

How do you think this turbo will perform??? the turbo shop told me to expect 650 cfm flow.... and also a 1 year 12,000 mile waranty... I am looking for a good mid range top end turbo boosting 18psi, 650cc injectors, SAFC, Data logger, EGT, Front mount intercooler, K&N air filter. stock block with 45k miles,brand new head, arp head studs, stock composite head gasket.(ya i know I was dumb for not spendin the extra 79 bux for a cometic!!!)i regret it everyday given the fact I spent hours on my head swap.

I tried to ask them to stuff a 20g wheel, but they said it would require a lot more porting of the compressor housing(making it weaker) and it will be very laggy with a TD05 turbin wheel... so i opted for 18g wheel.

It doesnt sound like a bad turbo. I know from experience I would never again buy a small mitsu housing turbo again. Ive found the evo16g is hard to make good power on pump gas. My friend has a conquest tsi with a bastard 20g. Its a 20g wheel stuffed into a 16g housing like yours but bigger. Its still doesnt perform like it should. I would say its barely better than my evo. Very disappointed with the turbo, he should have gone full blown 20g. the turbine housing is bigger and flows way better making lower intake temps.

dont they call those 16g killers or something crazy. i think they were trying to make a sleeper, but they end up pushing the limits of the turbo. i had a turbo like that but it didnt last very long. the gt setup looks sick i hope i works out well. i would check the shaft play from time to time to be on the safe side. it should hold up.
 
Hey.. i haven't gotten a chance to dyno yet, just street tuning.. but, boost does not fall off at redline, it keeps pulling. but I'm still trying to tune my timing curve out.. i'm peaking at 16 degrees advanced at 6.5k rpms, and i know i can squeeze more out. I am going to put in my stage 3 keydiver ecu in pretty soon, and i hope this helps. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Okay, for anyone that wanted an update on this turbo setup... I'm not very impressed, but here is my dyno sheet...
other mods-
DSMCHIPS stage 3 chip, tubular o2 manifold, 3 inch exhaust, no catalytic converter, 650cc injectors, afc, GT ported manifold, Evo 9 Fuel pump, AFC

First run was 255 HP @ 18psi boost. 3rd run was 19 psi and I had leaned the air fuel about 2% on the afc from 5k up. Should have left it at +14% from 5k up, but since I didn't get any knock on the second pull, thought I could lean it out a tad bit.. but that was a bad idea since I started knocking at around 5.5k. Best was 2nd pull which got 260.85 WHP.. I'm not very pleased with the numbers I got, but this is on stock cams, and my intake temps were around 110 @ the MAS. What do you guys think?
