I'm going to buy an open dump o2 housing and came across a thread where someone said that I would have to weld an additional pipe and lead it to the flex pipe. Is this true?

I can't find the thread anymore and after doing some searching, I haven't found any proof of the claim.

What i do remember from the thread was that if that if you left the dump open, it would melt the wires in your engine bay

If its the short dump type then yes it melts the wiring to the alternator. I'm not sure what flex pipe you are talking about but an extension pipe welded to the DP will remedy that issue. Just try to route it to the ground and not pointing at anything.

I have the flex pipe set up off my wastegate and its tack welded to the waste gate, stupid set up. I would recommend running hard pipe! Just my 2 cents.

If the pipe on the O2 dump is too short, I'd say just extend the pipe so that it exits lower and can't cause any issues

Like DSMnoobsause said, it should only cost a couple bucks to have it all welded together correctly.

The exhaust exiting from a typical (bolt-on) o2 dump is directed down and slightly rear-ward. There is no wiring that you need to worry about.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but something like this:
Vibrant Stainless Steel Interlock Hose, 1.5" ID (38mm) x 20" long - Punishment Racing
may be used when your intercooler piping is hitting the dump tube, but you wouldn't route it back into the exhaust...that's what standard (non-dump) o2 housings are for :D
