Hello! I have a 95 GSX, I took it in and had some things done, mainly tune-up alignment and a weld job on the exaust well the alignment and weld job were done the same day it took forever! I was watching and listening as they were doing this, a couple peopel told me that when welding your supposed to disconnect the battery so that it doesn't fry your alternator or worse, they kept starting and shutting it off the whole time welding they started it maybe 10 times at the least, when I left my radio began to flicker which was very odd I called to let them know and they blew me off! the next morning my car was completely DEAD had to get it jumped and I took it to walmart and had them test the battery and alternator and the battery checked out just fine all that came back was open diode (sorry guys I'm a female and am not fully mecanically inclined LOL I can do alot but something like this IDK)

If they were a good garage they would have used a batter suppression tool which clamps to both the pos and neg of the hettery! This is an anti surge device that stops it from causing Any issues with the ecu and failing electrical items! As for why they keep starting it I am assuming they were checking for any other leaks in your exhaust but they should be able to see if the weld was good then test once at the end!

I dont know on the diode im still learning electrics myself but if they did not use the correct method to weld then you can get them for messing your car up! Company I worked for once did this a few times just to save a few minutes of Labour.

They def weren't good!!! at the time I didn't have much of an option I had a credit card that was only accepted at certain locations, it was Calvert's express they even left screws off of the plate on the engine and from what they said they clamp a wire on the frame to ground it!

I would be livid. I would definitely at least try filing with your credit card company or something. There has to be someway you can prove the shotty work they did and what problems they created.

can't do much on the credit card it had to be paid off it wasn't in my name but I'm gonna get it fixed one way or another I'm just trying to make sure I have my facts right before I contact a lawyer

The open diode they refer to is in the alternator which probably got blown by their higher welding voltage they use. Check battery voltage while running to see if alternator is still charging battery (>14v). You'll probably have to get another alternator or the best thing is to bring the alt to an alt/starter repair shop for test and then repair or exchange.
