Ok i know i am a retard i put the batt in wrong and tried to start the car i here pop the ignition fuse blows. i put the battery in right and swaped a fuse from the rad fan and i turned the key and it still blew. i need major help just finished the swap and i need my car to get to work. help what could i of fried?

electronics never like this at all, chances are good that you may need a new ECU. I would start my diagnosis there with a good visual inspection.

i checked out the ecu all capasitors are fine and the caps are still good even when i turn the car on acc the fuse still blows

You may have a wire that is grounded somewhere and it is not supposed to be. I speak from experience.

Yes, absoloutly double check all the areas you may have moded for loose wires. although I would normally agree with a wire being grounded this could be a bit different. the battery was hooked up backward and the electronic system was then engaged. A car battery will supply a lot of current through the (back door) negative line of a circuit which is usually unprotected (a.k.a. fused). This can cause many different issues since electricity is unpredictable. When inspecting the ECU you will want to look for evidence of burnt traces both top and bottom, tranistors have a tendancy to crack and or split in half under these type of condition as well. good lighting and a magnifying glass will help since the boards have many surface mount IC. any exposed land or traces not used will have a smooth surface.if you find surface mount solder point on the ecu that are jagged or discolored and do not resemble others chances are good that a component was there and possibly exploded off the board. It would have been a good idea the first time when taking the cover off the ecu that this was done over a clean and smooth surface, any small components blown off the board may have possibly remained in the box. this would have been a good indication where to start your repair. Any way I wish you the best of luck and hope it is something simple and stupid.

I checked the ecu 2 times today with a magnifine glass everything is aok i think its a ground or something somewhere. Could it of cooked the starter relay? i need to figure this out.

Since it's the ignition fuse that's blowing you can simply remove the ECU from the car and see if the fuse still blows to eliminate it. Figuring out what you did fry is going to be interesting. I hope you have a real factory service manual. The ignition fuse on the battery feeds quite a bit of the car when it's done fanning out.

Ok guys i put all new fuses in and put the batt in right disconnected ECU and turned the key still blew ign fuse. this realy sucks because i dont even have any power inside the car. All the power i have is side marker lights tail lights and cluster lights, no dome lights no windows no radio nothing. i even checked all the fuses inside the car 2 were bad but i replaced them. I dont kno what to do anymore my car is sitting outside my work with the windows wide open and no power. I am seriously about ready to just junk the car even with all the money i just put in it. if anyone has any ideas let me know please.:(

I just dont feel like spending anymore money on it. Has anyone ever put a batt in wrong before. the nearest mitsu dealership from my work is like 75 miles it sux. i just cant think or what else fried

Ok do not junk it just yet. Putting in a battery backwards happens, when it does it will usually damage sensitive electronics. I mean PCB and so forth like the ECU. So you diconnected the ECU and it still blows the fuse, then disconnect the box for your automatic seat belt, stereo and so on in an attempt to find out which one is bad. At this point I have not taken a good look at the circuit but as Steve said it branches into a lot of different area. Honestly there is no strait forward answer or fix for this, just keep disconnecting things till it stop blowing the fuse. Of course this will be a pain having to replace the fuse but without having good electronics troubleshooting skills or paying someone this is the only way.

Good luck

What is a PCB and where is the box for the automatic seat belt and radio. i was also going to try and take the starter or and test it on the floor. and also going to disconnect the alternator and see if the fuse still blows.

Don't worry about PCB, it won't "blow". It's the, usually green though often yellow, white, blue or even black, board that electronic circuits are layed out upon. PCB board is what the caps in your ECU are soldered into.
Think of it as the groung where you grow your grass/the surface in which the electronics in your ECU are mounted, for instance.

I kida did the same thing. I had the battery hooked up correctly but I put the battery charger cables on backwards. The only fuse I blew was the ALT fuse. Try taking out all the fuses in the cabin fusebox and see if your other fuses still blow. That way youre eliminating most of the other junk in the car. Also, sometimes the alternator wires melt, so just look for some bad wires.

Ok well i checked the fuse in the car they were all good i ripped the starter out and did a floor test the strter worked fine. i also noticed that i forgot to plug my abs plugs in but i dont think that caused the fuse to blow ill check the wires going to the alternator when i go to work 2morrow

Ok guys i found my problem i rubbed my fingers down the alternator wires and what do i feel......melted wires i was wondering if i shoul cut and splice new wires in or run all new wires. It was realy weird tho because the only wires that melted were the wires that were exposed from the sleave. Thanks whoever told me to check the alternator wires:dsm:

Well yea i found it i spliced new wires in and i got my interior power back and headlights then the fuse blew again. I think i melted more than i think and im not dealing with it anymore. im not ripping the front of the car off and taking the motor out just to fix some wires. anyone want to buy a 6 bolt compression good in every cyl....

Is easton by Pittsburgh?

Na easton is by allentown im bout an hour from philly. i just cant figure it out....well i mean i kno i have a dead short somewhere. i even tried a 40 amp fuse it still blew i think like all the wires that go into the big fuse box under the hood melted togeather it was weird tho b/c the ones i found that where melted were not in plastic sleves like the one that wraps around all the wires. i already put like 2000$ into the swap and paid 1300$ for the car. like the second day i had the car i started the swap bought the car and only put 26 miles on it. IT JUST SUCKS! I wish i could find the problem. If i take it to a dealer shit it will proly cost anywhere from 500$ to 1000$ i dont have the money for that. Wish i knew some local dsmers who new about all these POS wires..:(

Dude, just stick through it, hold strong. I keep having problems with my dsm. It sucks, but I know that in the end everything is gonna be ok and Im gonna be as happy as can be. I only had it for 3 day and put 80 miles on it before I found a knocking in the engine and a LOT of metal. By the way, never put a bigger fuse in a circuit than what it calls for. There is no benefit, only drawbacks. The purpose of fuses is for them to be the weak link in the citrcuit just in case something goes wrong. By putting a bigger capacity fuse in there, it could possibly not be the weakest link and you may blow something else, melt wires or even start a fire. Just stick with it man. Good luck.
