One more intake question.

Hi, now that I've made up my mind to start modding, I took a look at the tuning guide. Obviously an Intake is my first mod, but there's so many!!! Could one of you link me to the filter and intake that you would get if you were me and if you were only going to do the "stage 1" mods?? Thanks a lot.

You don't really need a hard pipe, but if you feel you must get one, it just depends how much you want to spend. You can get one from Dejon Tool, but it's a little expensive. Or you can get one off ebay for alot cheaper, there more or less the same. As long as it fits.
The first thing you need to do is get rid of your stock air box and replace it with a cone filter. The cone filters are pretty well the same way. You can go with K&N FIPK, which will cost you quite a bit for what it is, or get just a regular K&N cone filter, which will cost a bit less. Then there are dozens of cheaper options, that may or may not flow as well/protect from water.
Like I said, it just depends how much you want to spend.

Basically, I'm willing to spend whatever it costs to do it right the first time, keeping in mind I for sure won't go into the stage 2 mods.

sorry to jump in, but Im wondering about those ebay intakes, i saw one for like 25 dollars, which just seems way to cheap when compared to injen and such. Im wondering why its so cheap, also my intake has a box with wires connecting to it, how would i incorporate this on an aftermarket intake. Thanks

The dsmtuners' parts catalog has a few choices that should work for you. Just make sure it is designed to work with 2g mass airflow and not vpc or a blow through set up.

Get a K&N FIPK, save yourself money on a hard intake pipe, the stock one is fine. Pick up a UIP-2gA upper intercooler pipe from Dejon Tool as well.

I wouldn't do the FIPK route, it costs as much or more than the hard intake pipe and still leaves you with the stock accordian. I would do a hard intake pipe and then hack your airbox and fab up a shield to keep out the heat. There are several write ups here and vfaq on cheap intake mods.

Yes, but like I said, the stock accordian is more than acceptable. Just trim the bov dump tube and it's all good. The FIPK is expensive yes, but it's a damn good filter. That + cheap heat shield = good to go.
