Ok to take GM MAF apart to clean?

I just picked up a GM MAF from a buddy of mind and just wanted to know if its ok to take out the 4 bolts and have the GM cleaned up abit


Its it safe and has anyone done it before?

Its ok to take the metal ends off and clean/polish them, but don't touch the middle section.
