ok, here's my problem: it started about 3 months ago when I noticed a oil leak under my car so, I put it on ramps and took the oilpan off (bad mistake) but, I replaced the gasket and put some RTV high temp silcone then put the pan oil. I thought that I fixed it but, I was wrong, anyway the leak is on the flywheel side, no matter what I do, it's always on the flywheel side

I saw a product on Two Guys Garage a while back. A quote from their site:

For the most common engine oil leak problems, try Bar's Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair. Its two stage formula restores seal size and flexibility lost due to engine heat, age and mileage. And, it's chemical polymers can even seal leaks caused by normal engine wear. Get twice the sealing power in one bottle of Bar's Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair. Visit barsleaks.com for more information.

You can also click around their site and see if any other product better suites your needs. You can also try some of this Pyroil Engine Oil Stop Leak stuff, brought to you by Valvoline.

I think it's the rear main , you can't tell that I have a leak until the car has been running for a while. It is the where there is a slot with a thin piece of alummina that the oilpan has to slide in before it will align and fit the rest of the way on. DSMunknown- I just picked some bars leak up yesterday at advace auto because I thought that would help, I will put it in tomorrow

Sounds like you and I had the same idea. Hope it works out. Keep us informed. :)

I don't have much faith in products that claim to fix leaks that come in a can/bottle. If you need to put in a clutch anytime soon, then you'll be right there. Otherwise, you may need to anyway if oil gets on your disc.

bringing this back from the dead, this work?

I just fully built my motor and used my old rear main seal. started the car up for the first time and it leaked.

pulled the motor again replaced the u-gasket and the rear main seal. put the engine back in now I have a few oil pan leaks and one leak is near the clutch but is not nearly as bad I am just hoping to god that it is just an oil pan leak.

I would lose my mind if the rear main seal is leaking because I dont think it could be put in any better then what I did. From before it was leaking a ton out once the car warmed up now after its warmed up its just dripping a drop about every other minute so its a big difference and hoping its just a coincident the location of the leak now.

Im taking the oil pan off cleaning it real well, gunna straiten the ridges out from possible being warped then apply a heavy coat of ultra grey RTV and im praying that it takes car of the leak.
what does anyone think. I might try some of that rear main seal stop leak if this doesnt work.

Well you certainly got a good ol' dsm smack in the face for not changing the seal the first time :nono:

Really it depends on whether it is the seal or the pan gasket.

I hate leaks so I really make sure the surface area is clean and dry before
installing gaskets, and I don't reuse gaskets...ever!

If the rear pan bolt holes line up with the block I doubt the pan is warped,
unless it was stepped on by someone during your rebuild and in that case
you would be better off getting another oilpan than to try an straighten a
bent one.

I know we all have to use rtv from time to time but with new gaskets
it should be used only where recommended. I personally wouldn't use it at all
on an oilpan with new gaskets. And I would never use it the way you described
at all anywhere, when you press those sufaces together alot of that rtv is going
to be on the inside of your engine and could break off.

I didn't notice knochgoon24 already posted before I did, Kinda got pulled away
for a bit...sorry for that, but maybe two people giving that advice will make it
"Stick"... Pun intended. LOL

well if your rear main is leaking, wouldnt you be able to tell by looking at the fly wheel? i mean take of the inspection plate and see if the back of your flywheel is wet with oil. i would assume the oil would get on the flywheel and be spun off as it turns.

if not, check your pan carefully for cracks, usaully around the bolt holes. this happens from overtightening the bolts. happened to me and drove me nuts for months tryin to find that leak.

also, when u seal the pan, DO NOT use that cork gasket b.s. they suck. i would use a felpro gasket, or just straight silicone. but as stated, dont glob it on crazy or it could get in your oil and clog your oil pickup.

happy hunting
