Oil squirter block off

Easy- tap the block and install squirters. Sure an engine will run without them but there is no doubt in my mind that they prolong the life of the engine by supplying fresh oil to areas which would normally rely on splash.

And my question still stands- what is the down side to running them?

I've never seen any combination of parts on a 4G that prohibited the use of squirters.

Easy for those with access to the tools to do such a mod. Remember not everyone feels comfortable doing the work or paying extra to have a shop do it right. Plugging the old holes is easy for anyone with the right length bolts and making sure they dont vibrate loose.

The downside I stated above. You may say they dont drain enough to justify the work to plug them. All that little bit helps at some level. If someone told me that all those little 1/2lb brackets dont really matter on a weight reduction, I would have to laugh because taken that "every little bit helps attitude" got my car down to 1876lbs still with a glass front windshield. Same goes here. All the little oil tricks add up to something.

Long rod 2.0 with RNR aluminum rods make it not worth the hassle. I wouldnt say that any 4G prohibits the use of them. Its just not worth the extra work keeping them in there for so little of an advantage.

Op you should be able to use a 12mm 1.25thread x 10mm length bolt to plug the squirters. Just make sure the bolt isnt to long that it blocks the oil galley. Id probably use a thread locking agent on the threads just to make sure they dont vibrate loose.

Your argument is flawed. Would you also contend that one never needs to bore a block because not everyone has the equipment or ability to do so? Or that you don't need to change your oil because you don't have a floor jack? Your stance is based on your personal opinion, ours based on fact and experience. At least until I hear a legitimate answer as to why the squirters are detrimental to the performance of the engine we will continue to utilize them wherever possible.

Agreed. I mean their there so why not use them? The ONLY down fall I see, is when people run forged pistons, they "tweak" them too much and they will break off. Other than that, the pros outweigh the cons greatly.

why would you want to plug them? Many engine builders to to extremes to install them into blocks that dont come with them. You dsm guys are lucky to have them from the factory and you want to plug them up? I don't get it.

amen

Knock 'em out and drill/tap/plug the holes. Those do steal oil from the mains.

Little contradicting isn't it?? If it was so important couldn't you retrofit the 1g squirters?

Yes you could fit the 1g squirters, with some custom machining.

In the 1g 6bolt and 7 bolt blocks, the squirters tap into the oil galley that runs by the cylinder bores.

in the 2g 7 bolts, the oil jets feed from the same oil passage that feed the main bearings.

So the 2g squirters rob the mains of oil, where the 1g style do not.
