oil soaked plugs

1991 eclipse n/t 1.8 wouldn't start-replaced plugs,points,rotor yesterday-ran but blew smoke(dark)and idled rough(ok at higher rpm's)
motor has 174,000 miles
Today, wont start again-plugs are fouled with oil
havent run comp check yet-is this a common problem with a 1.8??
is there any other part to check that could cause this??

it is the valve guide seals. thats what was wrong on my wifes car with the exact same symtoms

yep, symtoms of valve seals and/or piston rings
do a leakdown and/or compresion test.
