oil ring gap question

Hey I building a 2.0 right now, and I researched and figured out what gap I want for my compression rings, but now my machinist asks me what I want to do on the oil rings for gap. I just assumed you leave them alone, please tell me whether or not they need to be filed.

I am going .020 for my top ring and .023 for the second, I am planning to run 30+psi out of a gt35r, and possibly nitrous if I still got the itch for more power after the 35r is maxed :D .

also my pw clearance is going to be .035 I would like oppinions on this.
 
The oil control rings don't need to be gapped (makes no sense to try, in fact). Did you read the Wiseco instructions? :p

Your other clearances sound right. I shot for .0035-.0040 piston to wall clearance, ie made sure I wouldn't end up under .0035. But you'll probably be fine.

Make absolutely sure your machinist measures the pistons at the bottom of the skirt, as specified by Wiseco. If he didn't read the info about the oil control rings, I doubt he read the info about clearance measurements (I'd be freaked out just by the fact that he wanted to do something as nonsensical as gapping the oil rings). Also make sure he follows the instructions exactly on installing the rings. There are markings on each ring showing which side is up, and the oil control rings go in a specific order. If you don't follow the instructions correctly, you might end up burning oil.

You care to share this specific order? I've never seen any specific order as you say for oil control rings. You just install them and make sure you don't overlap the ends of the expander. And of course put the 2 oil rings on. Only thing you have to do is put the gap 90* from the wrist pin and 180* out on each one.

The middle ring gap goes above the wrist pin, the top ring would go a third to the left of the middle ring gap, and the lower ring gap goes a third to the right of the middle ring...if that makes sense. Then the top 2 ring gaps go 180 degrees out from one another.

Sorry, I was thinking of the stroker pistons, which have an extra support ring under the oil rings, with a little dimple in it, which needs to be facing down. And of course the support ring needs to be at the bottom of the land. The top two rings have markings showing which way is up as well. Basically I just mentioned this because I had to take several pistons out and redo them when I realized I wasn't paying attention to these markings.

I wouldn't be worried about clocking the rings, since they rotate any which way they want during operation anyway, but I did it just cause the instructions said so.

I have no oil burning issues with my stroker, so I believe people who report oil burning just didn't install the rings correctly. Even on a 2.0 if you installed the second ring upside down, it might not scrape oil quite as intended, since the profile is not symmetrical.
