My oil pressure is always reading zero so I started looking. I found this wire disconnected and I cant figure out for the life of me where it's suppost to go. Any help is really appreciated.

I've read the oil pressure guage wire is yellow/red, the idiot light is yellow. I've got a green/white wire coming out of there that I can't find a home for. Is that for the power steering pump?

For 2g turbo: The oil pressure gauge sender has a small green wire to a connector on the oil housing. (The wire diagrams don't show this small green wire or the connector which is a source of confusion). From there it's a yellow (sometimes yellow/red) wire which then goes into a larger yellow/red to the gauge. The small green and yellow (or yellow/red) wires are inside a protective casing. The oil pressure idiot light switch has a small yellow/black attached which then goes into a larger yellow to the idiot light. The power steering pressure switch has a blue/white wire.

So last night I was coming home from work, heading straight home to pick my wife up so we could go vote. Picked her up, got on the freeway, and as I was going uphill, I looked down and the oil pressure gauge stopped working. I thought "oh shit, did my oil filter fall off or something??" I was already at my exit, so I took it and pulled off to the side of the road. Checked for leaks, nothing. Oil filter was still on good, nothing out of the ordinary.

So this leads me to believe the oil pressure gauge just took a fat crap on me. Is this a common thing? I believe the sensor is electrical, is that correct?

If you look under the car at the oil filter housing i am pretty sure that you will find that the sending unit got disconnected, they do that all the time. You should see screwed into the filter housing the oil presure switch, which is round and the sending unit which is also round but bigger than the presure switch. It carries a single wire

Ill have a look at it tonight and see if it got disconnected.

Also, I was planning on getting an Autometer gauge when I did my FFFB install. Haven't gotten a nice day to do it yet though.

That thing is always coming loose. My fwd used to do that and now my awd. I can't keep it hooked up. I have a faze aftermarket installed now. Get the autometer and don't worry about the factory piece. It's worthless anyways.

The stock oil pressure gauge is a POS. Doesn't really tell you anything.
The only "shit" factor to the factory gauge is that you have no earthly use for an oil pressure gauge. You either have enough, or you don't. And what do you plan on doing while tooling down the road and realizing -after how long?- that you didn't have "enough"? Turn it up somewhere?
It's just another thing to obsess over that you cannot fix. Most "modern" cars that have oil "pressure" gauges are self-centering, so the dealer is no long deluged with "My neighbor's car shows XX pressure at 3500, and I'm only showing YY, fix it" nonsense.

Whether it's helped reduce the noise level on enthusiast sites has not yet been determined.

the Ballon type oil sender, the "pressure gauge sender" I need the plug that attaches to the end of it (reads pressure).
Do I need a complete new sender or can I get the plug that attaches to the end of the sender at a junk yard of something ?

Are you talking about the big (maybe 1.5 inch in diameter) sender at the bottom back of your oil filter housing? The wire that connects to that is notorious for falling off or getting damaged. I simply cut the old connector off, and crimped a spade terminal (female) on the end of the wire, and it slid just fine over the disc thing on the end of the pressure sender.

So I was just thinking the other day about how I have NEVER seen my oil gauge move, so I got under the car and there is an extra green wire that's close to the oil filter that is not connected. I found this thread and it shows me that green wire goes to my pressure gauge sender... except I don't have one of those! I looked all over for it, it's not there, LOL. Is possible I just never got one with my engine??? (this is my 2nd engine)

You may not have the pressure sender unit if they changed oil filter housings. It will be coming out from the bottom of the filter housing itself, if you had one. If you don't then you don't....

I was kinda driving my gst pretty hard and all of a sudden I lost oil pressure and a lil pop sound cane from under the the hoow then smok I pulled over and the was oil shooting out around the oil filter housing like around the oil cooler why did that happend all info abotu this would be nice to know thank u

Okay so I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, auto meter. Every so often the light on the cluster will come on, whats that about?
When it does I check my gauge and pressure is fine. I have 25lbs at idle so i'm pretty sure i'm ok, just figured i'd check as a precaution.

Thanks

Sorry for the grave-dig but I didn't want to start a new thread just for this.

The oil gauge on my Eclipse stopped working and I noticed the oil pressure wire was all rusted out and dirty. If I understand correctly there are 2 parts for the oil pressure sending unit. The bell shaped oil pressure switch and the wire. I can't find the wire on any auto parts websites. Can I just use a regular wire?

Yes, just use insulated copper wire from Radio Shack or somewhere. I crimped a standard female 1/4" spade terminal on the end of it, and that slipped nicely over the stud sticking out of the sending unit.

Hello... noob here... 99 gst automatic stock (except for the door handles... stupid handles... LOL) i got the car in Jan/2011 with the transmission rebuilt.

anywho, i had the oil changed on 5/28/2011, 128,611 miles 5w30 oil. (now its at 130,585 miles)

when the oil was changed, the oil pressure gauge didn't move and just stayed at the bottom. so i figured it was a busted gauge and that I would add it to "The List" of things to fix on this car.

BTW: the needle on the gauge would move upward, whenever i clicked on the "O/D OFF" button and accelerate quickly, like say for instance when I needed to get on the freeway quickly from the on-ramp... but then the needle would go back down...

well this past weekend, i heard one of the belts snap/break and sputter around underneath the hood, on my way to work, so instead i drove it to my mechanic. We opened the hood and noticed that it was the A/C belt that broke and he said that I didn't need it right away if I don't use the A/C, which i don't in an effort to save on gas... :D LOL

well shortly after this incident, i notice the needle shoot straight up past the "H" level and never move from there, even when its off. I remember seeing this thread before and figured I'd look underneath the car and sure enough the cable was off the pressure sender unit... i also noticed that the plastic clip at the end of the wire is either chipped or broken at the halway point... (probably from the A/C belt flying around) i can still attach the cable back to the unit, but im sure its come off already...

ok, so here are my questions/concerns:
1) Should i replace the wire completely or will it still function as-is with the broken clip (...and with the help of some heavy-duty plastic ties)?

2) If the pressure gauge is showing passed the "H" level at all times, with or without the wire attached, should I replace the sender unit?

3) If im not using the A/C, can I really go without the A/C belt on?

4) Anything i should look for, since the A/C belt snapped off??? like damage to the surrounding areas? Any specific parts to keep an eye out for damage?

Any help, tips, links, directions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

p.s. I am a noob, to this site and to the DSM world, so please bare with me if I have broken any forum rule... just let me know which one and I will try and fix it and keep in mind for the next time... (like one I already broke, spelling/grammar... that is my mistake... im so used to texting everybody from my phone i have a tendency of shortening my words... LOL sorry about that...)

P.p.s. also, sorry for all the details/lenght of story, but I figured i'd give as much as possible now, so that i have less people asking questions, trying to clarify the situation later.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Also, I forgot to add that i checked my dipstick and had little to no oil so I added another 2 quarts, which raised it to about half-way, so I added another 2 quarts... but the oil pressure gauge is still the same...

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Could I be leaking massive amounts of oil, with a faulty pressure sender unit, showing high oil pressure, with little to no oil at all??? Possibility??
