My oil pressure is always reading zero so I started looking. I found this wire disconnected and I cant figure out for the life of me where it's suppost to go. Any help is really appreciated.

If you have hooked that wire up and it still doesn't work, either recheck the wiring inside that protective shielding to make sure everything is getting a good connection, and or replace the unit it attaches to with a different one.(it just screws out, when putting a new one on dont forget the teflon tape)
[Use automotive sealant, such as Permatex. Leave the toilet tape in the house. It's not for engines. Do not over-tighten tapered threads, as the housing can split.]

similar problems, I found that the bolt, that you screw the oil filter onto was loose. Remove the filter and make sure the bolt it tight, by securing the lock nut down to the base of the oil sending unit. As for that falling off wire, a couple heavy duty wire ties solved it for me. :dsm:

Definitely worth checking into! Thanks

ok. So i was driving home from my friends house and i decided that i was going to pass him because he drives 5 under the speed limit (has a warrant out... long story haha he's a good guy though) but anyways. I decided to just slip by him and my other friend behind him. As I pull into the oncoming lane and start to slide by my other friend pull out in front of me!!WTF So i had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting her and i began to slide more to the left (two lane rode in the country). Next thing I know, i'm sliding through the ditch about to go through a barbwire fence so i pull up my emergency brake and slide to a stop about a foot from the fence and a tree.

To cut the story short...i got out of the ditch and got my car home. As i noticed on the way home though...i had no oil pressure

I pull her in the driveway and turn her off and take a look under to see if my car is spewing out oil or something and i notice a blue wire hanging down next to my oil pump. So could that be a wire to send a signal to my oil pressure gauge?

Sorry this was so long but i'm still a little shook up from the whole incident..:barf:

It is very likely. I had a similar problem with mine. It actually has two oil sending units on it. One operates the gauge and the other operates the "Dummy" light. If the oil light didn't come on too I would get to tore up about it. Both sending units are directly under the alternator and have a single wire going to them. I wouldn't drive it until I knew for sure, but that is probably the problem.

You probably need to crimp the connector a little to keep it tight on the sending unit. I had the same problem with my wire falling off and that fixed it. Just make sure to crimp it just enough to make it a little tighter when you slide it on the fitting.

Yeah, my oil light wasn't on, it was just zero oil pressure. The reason it bothered me so much is because i did have a slow oil leak but i'm going to take it in to have the o2 sensors replaced and i'll have the guy find the leak.

I just woke up so i'm gonna go see if i can't rewire the oil pressure sender and get back to ya'll with the results. maybe even a been and after pic :sneaky:

Honestly I think a lot of people have the same problem with that wire falling off, I know I've seen it at least 20 times just around where I live. Anyway, as soon as that wire comes off the sending unit then you're oil gauge is going to read 0 psi, but that doesn't mean you're really getting 0 psi, it's just the gauge not working. Now, when you describe how you went into the ditch and everything, sounds like you may have messed something up pretty bad if you have oil squirting out. =/.. I'd jack it up, clean it off and see if I could find out where the leak is coming for to be sure. Hope all goes well and you get everything fixed.

When i got home i wanted to make sure that there wasn't oil squirting out everywhere. There was a small oil leak prior to the ditch incident. But i'm heading out there right now to get a look at it in the daylight so hopefully i don't find anything that i didn't notice at one in the morning last night ....:dsm:

EDIT: So i took it up the the local Kwik Kar and they let me go down in the pit to take a look under. Long story short, I got the wire back on the solenoid and i'm pretty sure that my oil pan is the source of the leak. It looks like they used a cork gasket on it...

So did the gauge start working once you put the wire on on the pressure sender?

yea its definitely for the oil pressure sending unit, if you aren't sure about where things go go out and buy a book from like autozone or something thats what i did sat at home and read it. i do that whenever i don't know about a car i buy

90 gst, blue wire seems to be burned off, no oil pressure, no unusual smoke just a little whote smoke at startup, switched gauge clusters, but i got the car on a jack, and i can see by the alternator the blue wire like on my 1.8 that hooks up to something near the oil filter, im looking under the gst, and the blue wire is burned off, idk were it should hook up to, i got the mitsubishi engine book for 1992 and up but i got a 90, it doesnt say were the wire should be hooked up to, just shows the whole oil diagram, so were do i hook up this blue wire?

Blue wire goes into some sort of clip, which attaches to the pressure sensor/sender unit. Which is the round thing attached the the filter housing. They get ripped off all the time.

awesome thanks mines ####ing burned off, i got oil but i drove it a good 20 miles when i got the car with no oil pressure and i just thought the old gauge was ####ed sincei t was riced out

what type of terminal do i need to hook the wire back up?

thanks

The dealer will have it, most parts stores (NAPA) will have it (I think it's a routine Ford part), or you can just use a spade connector attached "sideways". Use wire ties to hold it up away from the road and squirrel carcasses.
A low-oil DSM will sound like you have a washing machine full of broken mirrors under the hood. If you could stand to drive it, yours probably had sufficient oil pressure.

Ok so my oil pressure gauge isn't working and so i'm worried to run my car without knowing that oil is getting to the engine. I did find this connection on the oil gauge sending unit that makes me think that that is what needs to be reconnected but I just want to be sure. So here's a picture

It isn't a cut wire. That black connector actually slides horizontally onto the little nipple on the end of the sensor that wire is zip- tied to.

(Sorry for the horrible paint shop job, i'm at work, and don't have access to anything better)
