Oil pressure relief porting alternative?

unfortunatly you cannot remove the plug with the housing installed. I have tried. So you might as well just do what has worked for many before and port the hole as I did.

Not questioning your statement just wondering why is that? It looks like you should be able to unbolt it? I have not looked too close at my OFH when I have been under the car before.

Timing belt cover is in the way.
 
it also lets the turbo spool faster and motor rev faster. I killed 2 turbos with high oil pressure

did you have an oil line with a restrictor? factory oil line?


A QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU GUYS, WHO ON HERE HAS HAD A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PORT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING????? I CALLED A LOCAL MACHINE SHOP THAT HAD THE HONOR TO WORK ON BRENT RAOU'S CAR AND BRENT RAU TOLD MY FRIEND, (THE MACHINIST THAT WORKS THERE) COMPANYS DONT MAKE HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMPS BECAUSE YOU CAN HAVE HIGHER OIL PRESSURE BY ELIMINATING THE BALANCE SHAFTS. HE SAID AT THE MACHINE SHOP HE THEY DONT DO ANYTHING TO MAKE LESS OILING THEY ALWAYS DOING THINGS FOR BETTER OILING.
 
something so simple does not need to be aruged like this. removing the OFH is very simple for most of us.

the problem i see with a softer spring is what if its too soft and it gives at idle and you have no oil pressure and no oil getting anywhere. i know im not willing to test new springs on my motor.

porting is the easy way to fix this. it allows the system to bleed off more volume once that spring opens. i have ported my OFH and my pressure is still too high so i might do some more porting later

so instead of arguing if you would like to test out some different springs i would love to see your results. there is alot more work involved because 1st you would need to figure out the spring pressure that spring applys when its installed, kind of like its seat presssure on valves. then you would need to find other springs that could be used that would give a lower seat pressure
 
Were not talking about replacing the spring, all I'm talking about is clipping half a loop or a little more to lower the spring pressure.

I am also asking red93 and anyone else who has done this the easiest way to go about it, and what their experience was.

According the red93 it worked perfectly for him.

call your local machine shop before you decide to lower your oil pressure let them tell you what they think you should do.

HEY THATS IS ME!!!! Im trying to help you guys, who has had problems because of better oilling? why would you eliminate the balance shafts to have higher oil pressure, then find a way to lower that oil pressure??? do you think high horsepower engines needs better oiling or worse oiling or stock oiling??? who makes more sence and why are you guys doing this, ive never seen anyone have problems with the higher oil pressure so give me an example so you can shut me up!!

Go read the holset threads and you will understand why people want to lower their oil pressure. High oil pressure WILL kill turbos.

Also the majority of people on here are not building 1000hp race engines.

Also people don't eliminate their balance shafts to intentionally raise their oil pressures they do it to remove another point of failure(balance shaft belt).

eventhough the higher oil pressure cant hurt. And thats what a restrictor is for, for the turbo anyway.

Balance shafts are eliminated to remove rotating mass not increase oil pressure. The higher oil pressure is a side effect.

I removed my balance shafts because last time I didn't and I spun my balance shaft bearings destroying my bottom end. This build I eliminated them because I don't want to take that chance again. Raising my oil pressure had nothing to do with my decision to remove my balance shafts. As mentioned it is a side effect.

As far as what is better... To me it seams like high oil pressure puts more stress on engine's seals and gaskets, not to mention the turbo.. This is only my personal opinion. Also, and I believe I mentioned it before, the Kiggly HLA restricts pressure to the head to 15 psi and it seems to be working for him (8.358 at 164.90mph FWD, gas). Compare that to 100+ psi with no balance shafts.
