oil pool in intake manifold

hey guys, i'm in the process of replacing the head gasket in my TSI and when i removed the IC pipe from the throttle body i noticed there was a pool of oil laying at the bottom of the intake. IT was present in the pipe leading from the BOV and i also found it in the exhaust ports (not pooling just wet). Just wondering if this would be from something else or is some of this normal for these engines

Its normal, It is the crankcase vent. The nipple on the vc usually goes to your turbo snorkel. You can put a sealed catch can in line to stop the oil in your air intake

Hey buddy I am in afghanistan as a mechanic and for us oil in the intake track is not always a good thing. Worse case scenario your turbo could be leaking oil but to be sure check the out line on your turbo to intercooler and that will let you know for sure. However the other guy is right about excess oil coming from the crankcase. It will dump back in the intake track before the TB. "Leaking Turbos" equal runaway diesels

If it's an older motor, it's the result of sloppy piston ring sealing. All the "blow by" ends up in the intake on a stock setup.

This is common. Usual suspects are oil from crankcase vent as mentioned before, faulty PVC, or bad seals on turbo.

Change the pvc valve first as it is the cheapest. Pull the charge pipe off the turbo and check for oil there.

Again very common in higher mileage turbo vehicles. As they said before pcv system you can change it and/or throw a catch can on there to catch all the blow by instead of it entering the intake track. If you have a significant amount in there I would also take off and clean the intercooler, but that's just me.
