my oil pan gasket is leaking and i need to replace it. If anyone could give me tips on how to go about doing this. My main queary is the proper sealent that i would use in order to do a proper fix. Any imput is appreciated.
Thank you,

I use Right Stuff for Imports for all my oil pan sealing jobs. A lot of people on here use this stuff (or just the regular Right Stuff). I like it more than RTV.

Silver RTV has also worked very well for me.

Both of these will work very well!

I use Right Stuff for just about everything, but usually on the oil pan ill use Silver/Grey RTV

Grey RTV will work perfectly.
Oil Pan gaskets are a waste of money.
I've put over 100k miles on both of my DSMs that I've done T-Belts and BSE's on, and neither of them have leaked a drop of oil from the oil pan...

Use RTV, when I did my BSE kit I bought a complete gasket set and it came with a cork gasket. I decided to try that instead of RTV since I had it on hand. After I got everything back together I had about five small oil leaks that got worse under load. I had to pull the oil pan back off and use RTV on it, no leaks since.

Long story short, don't waste your time with gaskets. I used almost a full tube on my oil pan, I put it on thick, didn't want to have to take it back off.

Just got done with removing a broken oil pan bolt and installing a crank scraper on a 2g GSX. First off, do -not- get a gasket for the oil pan. It's cork, and it's a worthless pile of shit. The one I removed leaked and was sticking out everywhere. Second for the AWD guys, I got at the pan by just dropping the DP, transfer case, and removing the lower control arm onboard bolt so I could pull out the left drive axle (tip: push the rotor away from the car while hammering the onboard CVJ, and when all else fails...get a bigger hammer). With those outta the way, you can get at the bolts, it's a little tight but workable. Then used a putty knife to break the old gasket/rtv seal from before with a little cussing for encouragement. A good sized bead of rtv around the pan and one of the scrapers and thats about it. :hellyeah:

All the dealerships tell you, you don't need a gasket for the Oil Pan. Just get some gasket maker. I used the Toyota one but the Honda one is great too. Clean the Oil pan really well. Where the old sealer was scrap it all off, shiny clean and than use the tube and sprean it out along the whole lining of the pan. Did mine 2 weeks ago haven't had a problem yet. Works great but your oil pan when putting new gasket maker needs to be clean for a good effective sealer.

RTV isn't supposed to work well for that i know some people haven't had problems but others have more oil coming out of their pan than we can drill out of the earth!!!

Someone stated that one of the best is the honda gasket silicone, I second that. You can find it at any motorcycle shop, most private shops only sell the honda stuff as a gasket maker for motorcycles because for a lot of the old bikes you can't get gaskets.

haha it's going to have to be repeated anyways so I'm going to just say it again to make sure everyone gets a good look at it.

There is no factory gasket.
