Oil pan differences

If it is the original engine, there will be a triangular component on the passenger side of the intake cam. This is the '97-'99 cam angle sensor. 6-bolt engines will have a much larger, round cam angle sensor in this location with a 4-wire plug coming out of the top. Also the 6-bolt oil pan is shaped slightly different.

That last bit regarding the oil pan being differently shaped is the only thing I would take away from this.

Any 1G engine could use the '97-'99 cam sensor. Any 1G engine can use the much larger, round cam sensor with the 4-wire plug. The only way you are going to have any idea is by looking at the oil pan itself.

Just as extra visualization, here's a pic of the 6 and 7 bolt oil pans side by side. 6 bolt on left, 7 bolt on right. In addition to what 19Eclipse90 showed for the flat/ round lip, the 7 bolt pan has an indentation below the left side of the rounded lip. 6 bolt doesn't.
