Hey guys i just installed a jdm transmisson last march..5 months later *yesterday* i checked my transmisson fluid and notice that it went from red to like a light brown fresh oil color??? I poured in BM trickshift fluid when i had the transmisson dropped in...is this normal to happen with this kind of product?? Out of the those 5 months i probaly did like 6-8 power brakes im thinkin i allready burned out my fluid. No transmissons problems that i havent notice its working fine. I just want to be sure, if i do need to change my fluid what other type of fluid is best reccomended for durablity and more friction? Im thinking about getting lubeguard...
thanks for your time

ok, i changed the transmisson fluid i bought 4 quarts of BM trickshift and put in a new filter, when i drained it only 2 quarts came out of it..???So i poured in all 4quarts thinkin maybe my transmisson been on low fluid. When i started it up and checked how it reacts when i place it in gears it jerk pretty hard..i check the fluid and it was bubbling so i drained a quart, still same bubbling, drained another quart..it seemed ok..checked it again, went into gears pretty smooth, drove it around shifted fine, drove it hard shifted smooth no jerking..

Where im confused at is i thought my car needed 4-5 quarts of fluid, plus the fluid was blue when i poured it in, when i was draing the fluid out..it changed back to brown?????? Does my transmisson need a flush to be fully clean??? thanks for the response.

a drain and refill will only require 2 to 3 quarts. You overfilled the tranny which would easily turn the tranny fluid brown and smell like burnt hair. Good thing you didnt drive than much like that because you can do some damage to the tranny when you overfill it. The best way to flush the tranny is to take off the cooler return line from the radiator or the external tranny cooler if you have one and put it into a drain bucket. Run the car for a minute then drain the fluid from the pan. Do the filter/gasket and clean the pan and refill with 2-3 quarts while checking the fluid level. Drive around for 15 minutes or long enough to heat up the atf and then drain the atf again. Refill with another 2-3 quarts and check the color of the fluid. If its still dirty looking then do another drain and refill until the atf looks like a light cherry red or in your case blue. Just remember, not all the atf is in the pan. There is still atf in the torque converter and in the valve body.

ok thanks good stuff, i will look into that...pretty much cleared everything up for me..thanks for help..=D

I recommend paying the fees for a real transmission shop to do a complete flush/fill/adjustment service on that box. And please, don't try to power brake a little DSM slushbox. It's not a Torqueflite.

Why not brake torqueing? How are you gonna get decent 60' by not doing it. I have myself an ATX and several other friends with some AT's in the 10sec and 11 sec and they all do power brake at the staging line.

Sure it can reduce the life of your trans but not to kill it instantly, you just have to brake at max 5 second and you'll be allright.

And ATX tranny are as strong as MTX one, if not more when well maintened and driven properly ;)
