My car's oil light started turning on several weeks ago. Even after several oil changes it still hasn't gone away. It's only on when I'm idling, sometimes on at higher rpms than other times.. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me whats wrong with it. Thanks.

I had my oil light come on as well. You need to test your oil pressure. You can put an oil pressure sensor in where the oil sending unit goes and fire up the car to see what it reads. Most likely if your light is on its not going to read hardly anything if any pressure at all. Mine personally was getting 0 oil pressure thats why my light came on. My oil pump had lost prime, I just reprimed it and it fixed the problem.(not like that is fun in itself).

You already know the sensor works becuase the light is coming on, and then going off when you start driving, most likely because when you start driving your oil pressure rises.
Worst case scenario would be you need a new oil pump

try these steps: in this order

1. check oil level
2. check oil pressure.
3. test oil sensor (remove it make sure no debris is on it)
4. re-prime oil pump.

if your problem still is not fixed.

5. remove oil pump use a compressor and blow air through the oil lines making sure nothing is obstructing oil flow.
6. reinstall new oil pump:(high temp gasket sealer required)
7. prime oil pump and turn the teeth to make sure it is full of oil no air trapped in it.
8. reassemble motor. fill with oil and new filter. start it up.

Go underneath your car with a flash light, and look straight up past the oil filter and look on the back of the block. If one of the wires to the sending unit is out or touching the block it will malfucntion.
