Oil Light Flickering on/off? WTF

So I did a search, didn't find anyone with the exact problem so here I go.

Wire was hanging lose that made the light even go on/off. So I connected it and when you put the key in and turn it a little the oil light goes on, so therefore its working. So after driving a bit, I noticed the light will flicker on/off when I'm on a hill or speeding up/down. So I ranted on facebook about it and someone asked me if I heard knocking because he said thats a sign of low oil pressure.

My oil gauges don't even work, aftermarket and stock... will be fixing that asap. My buddy told my to purchase an oil pressure gauge, but heres what I wanted to know.... Could it be a bad connector causing it to flicker on/off, it never stays on for more than 1 minute. Or do I really need to see if I have low oil pressure. If you think purchasing a oil pressure gauge will be the smartest idea, where can I buy one.

& yes I checked my oil it looks good.

hook up the aftermarket gauge, and that should tell you.
but my light comes on every so often too, when at idle and the engine is warm.
I've heard of a couple other cases like this and its usually just the gauge or sending unit.

Just to make sure i say you get that aftermarket gauge up and running though.

I found an ebay one, I mean I hate purchasing shit off ebay for cars, but its just a gauge where should I buy one?

did you check the oil level? I know it sound stupid, but if it sloshes in the pan maybe that could be something, otherwise I'd say bad wireing.

Yes oil level was fine.

Its generally usually just bad wiring..
As long as there is no lifter tick or any tell tale signs of low oil pressure a gauge is just peace of mind.

The stock gauges are shit anyways.

Where to buy an aftermarket oil pressure gauge? I found one on ebay, but like I said I don't like to buy car stuff on ebay, what are your thoughts?

I say there is alot of worthwhile stuff on ebay.
just make sure its a good quality for gauges, youll probably want a name brand like Autometer or something.
they run around 60$ or so.
its your choice.

Do you have an aftermarket guage pod either on top of your columb or on the A pillar? If not, might want to order a boost guage too, and buy a dual guage pod.Just find autometer on ebay, and no they don't fit, that's why I suggested a pod of some sort..

I got an aftermarket oil pressure already, but the owner before me screwed it crookedly the thing into the oil thing to read it.. So I really don't want to mess with the old one. I'd prefer to purchase a new one. I got a boost gauge right now and it works, so i'll take the old oil pressure one out if I buy a new one.

oh, well in that case i would just get a new gauge
probably the same kind as your boost gauge...
but its whatever you feel like paying, or getting.

There two different guage pods then..Ya, just get a new oil pressure guage of the same size..Ebay becomes your friend..

How much is a sending unit on these cars?

For the warning light sender? I picked up a few for free at the junkyard with another purchase.
For the stock oil gauge sender? Same deal.

New? $3-12 for the warning light sender.
I think it's $40ish for the stock oil gauge sender.

Im running into the same problem were at a low idle or whenever im cruising under 2500rpms and let off the gas the oil light will come on and sometimes its not even like a steady glow its a constant flicker like something is lose...

I got under my car to see if maybe my oil pan was leaking or something well come to find out my return line from my turbo is leaking does anyone think this is why my light is coming on ? its not a constant drip its just a few every hour if that.
