Oil leak on top of the HEAD

Hey Dsmr's I would appreciate any advice

I searched on past Forums but I did not find anything that relates tot he problem I'm having.

I own a 96 Eclipse GS 2.0L DOHC and I am having a bad oil leak which has me adding a quart every 2 - 3 weeks. The oil is leaking right between the Head and the Block. I took it to some shops and they are talking about $1000.00 to fix it properly. They mentioned taking the engine apart, resurface it... etc...

Good thing, Bad Thing, easier way to go about it?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Yeah your going to need to fix that, and I would do it ASAP! umm... that oil leak can cause a new world of problems for you car if not fixed, especiallly at that rate, wow that a lot of oil WTF . The mechanic wasnt pulling your leg, its going to cost you some green, because you need to take out the engine, oh wait... there might be a way to do it with the engine in but Im not sure what way would be faster. You shouldnt have resurface the block or anything, but the head will have to be, Im not sure how many miles you have on it, but while its apart you might want to do the valve stem seals. Oh and please get new head bolts, some shops dont think its nessary but with this engine you really should. take luck

Sounds like head gasket to me. Its only going to get worse and you may eventually overheat then warp your head because of it all.
