Vee,
I've read through previous threads about this problem but there isnt a clear solution to how to fix it, so here goes.

I finished replacing my timing belt and balance shaft belt and had everything together. I start the car and noticed that i had an oil leak. I took off the accesories and timing cover and ran the car and saw that the oil leak was coming from the balance shaft pulley where the bolt is and its leaking pretty heavily. What is the proper way of fixing this ?

I've read in the other threads that there is suppose to be a washer on the bolt ... i have the washers theres 2 in fact on the bolt side of the pulley, now is there suppose to be another washer in behind the pulley ? I've also read that putting thread sealer . Does that fix it ? I torqued down the bolt and everything .

Lots of help would be greatly appreciated . Ill wait for reply's thank you guys in advance

its not the balance shaft itself ...its the balance shaft belt tensioner the one with the offset bolt on the bottom left

aaah, yes:

I used permatex high temp sealant, it comes in this bottle here and I bought it at a local autozone. It's a white paste.

Did you remove your balance shaft? This threaded bolt does in fact go through an oil galley and needs to be sealed with a sealant or RTV.

The brightside is if you have your balance shafts removed, you don't have to redo the timing belt to fix this.

hmm i dont remember seeing that threaded bolt with an allen key ...is that at the end of where the bolt goes for the balance shaft belt tensioner ??? when i put a flashlight throught the hole i see something weird at the end but cant quite figure out what it is...because if it is thats a really small bolt n must be hard to take out without rounding it...and no unfortunately i havent removed my balance shaft ...and i have to replace both balance shaft belt and timing belt due to the excessive oil that soaked in the belts :( OE mitsu belts gone haha... now im going to jobber ones to save a lil bit of $$$

will it make that much of a difference ...because when i took it apart there were aftermarket belts already on it ...i do drive it pretty hard every now and then soo ...

Crap, Sorry I didn't clarify, the allen BSP plug in that picture is an oil galley plug. That is NOT used in the system that we're talking about, please disregard. I was just posting that picture to show the bottle that I used.

oh ok i was kind of getting worried im like wth...how am i gonna get that out that hole is small ...its like a m8 x 1.25 bolt that threads in ...then im like inside that hole ders another bolt that i have to take out LOLz...but anyway so i just put some thread sealer on the balance shaft tensioner pulley bolt and torque it up and it should fix the problem ???

sorry for trying to get it clarified just making sure because im putting it back together tomorrow and i want to put it back together for the last time LOLz ... i've torn it down and put it back together so many times now its not even funny...getting the right amount of tension on that timing belt without the proper tool is not fun !!!
