oil in spark plug area

Its probably the rubber gasket for the spark plug holes. Or the valve covers like to crack in the center spark plug area.

thats a tell tale sign that you need a new valve cover gasket. the gasket assembly should come with 4 "O" shaped pieces that will seal the spark plug holes from oil entering from the head. and one large gasket that will fit around the outside valve cover. its a easy to do fix with basic tools.

^^^This..

10mm socket, spark plug socket, small flathead screw driver.Or one of those paint scrapers works too.

I'm having the same problem in cylinder 1 but it happened after I replaced the valve cover gasket and o rings

helicoil it! I have had to use many times before for valve cover bolts that were stripped and they worked great for years without any issues. the whole kit from any of the big parts store chains only costs like 15.00 and it comes with everything you need. while your there I advise picking up a tap to go back and clean up the other threads that you think are still in good condition just to make sure and clean them out.

happened to me right after I bought it. Was doing a tune up and compression test. Found a ton of oil in number 4 and pulled the plug and the compression was 265!!!!. Replaced the VC gasket and compression was back to 195 . 1 hr, VC gasket $15-20 bucks and some gasket sealant did the trick. Oh also i ended up getting new plug wires as well because the boot was soaked and couldn't clean it all out.

Spark plug tube seals are leaking. They dont always come with the valve cover gasket, so make sure u ask if they do.. as for the stripped threads.. see if u can retap it slightly larger before drilling & helicoiling it..

I got the valve cover gasket replaced but I cant get the bolt out so I got a whole new head to start for a build

A bad spark plug seal wont leak oil into the cylinder, you probably got oil in there when you removed the spark plug.

All these guys are right. Had the same problem, it was a bad o ring. Pretty easy fix and inexpensive. As far as the helocoil, expelled all other possibilities before going that route. I've used them and had both good and bad experiences. If you can do longer or bigger bolts like previously stated, definately do so, far better result IMO.
