Oil Filter Gasket

I was changing my oil and I was emptying the container of the old oil I found a gasket in the container and I wanted to know if the oil filter have a gasket, it was a big gasket.

Yeah, oil filters have a gasket. It's a thin rubber ring, roughly the same diameter as the filter itself. It usually stays connected to the filter, but it can separate sometimes.

Yes you will get a new gasket, make sure to lube it with fresh oil when you install. Whenever you change your oil, always make sure that gasket comes off...many have been known to have oil leaks due to double stacking them together.

heh leak is an understatment. After an oil change on a Prelude, someone left the old seal on, and when he started the car, oil just poured out like the filter wasn't even there.

I was trying to be nice about it hahahah....if you forget to take off the old gasket, then you deserve the "LEAK"

Thanks for the reply because I put in about 4 quarts and it had half way on the dipstick I wanted make the dipstick was playing tricks on me because I don't want to overfill.
