What's up guys.. Happy st.patricks day... I need some help, and I'm turning to my #1 resolution center for help.

I'm finishing up my 6 bolt swap/ rebuild on my 2g. Just got done priming the motor (using a handpump on the OFH method, still haven't primed by cranking), and I came to the realization that I don't have a dipstick. I went out and got a universal dipstick from my local auto parts store, to atleast start the break in process. My question is.. Can anyone tell me the distance between the stopper on the dipstick and the bottom of the dipstick? I'm plannin on adjusting this adjustable to whatever the length is atleast until I order an oem on if neccesary.

My one and only issue with ordering an oem dipstick is just the time it'll take to get here. I wouldn't see it till midle of next week, and after my car being down for 3 years, I feel like those few days are going to kill me if I wait..LOL.. I assume something like this can be resolved fairly simple, with the correct measurment. I know another of my options is to put 5qts (although I know its not what the car calls for, it'll atleast give me a close enough idea) and adjust the dipstick till it reads full. But if possible, I'd like to get a measurment, atleast so I can be in the ballpark. Thanks guys

P.s. The actual block is from a 90.. Body's a 98.. Just in case

From the part that stops on the dipstick tube to the end of the dipstick is 18 1/16".

Thank you sir, I'm actually in my garage as we speak, and i just threw about 4 1/2 qts. I'm going to go ahead and adjust the dipstick and post my results. It should show as full or a little over.

After a quick pm with 95blackgsturbo, i realized that i didn't clarify enough what i needed. Im in need of the measurment from the bottom of the dipstick tube, to the bottom of the dipstick itself. Baiscally, the amount ofdipstick that goes into the actual block.

Shouldn't really be relivant. As long as you have 18 1/16" in the tube itself the correct amount will be showing through the bottom of the tube.

The reasoning is because i dont have a tube, my dipstick has one of those annoying locks. So the lock is supposed to be set for down by the block, but its damn near impossible for me to lock it under the car (to tight of a space to get a screwdriver in it). So i was going to just lock it out of the car so when i slid it in, it would fit perfect.

Either way, i'm still searching for this answer, but i have come to the conclusion that i will have to bite the bullet and order an oem one. This seems to flimsy and seems like it could fly of with ease.

Non-the-less, i still would like to get a measurment just for the sole purpose of atleast starting the car or being able to crank it to prime it.
