Alright here's the story. My 95 TSi AWD was completely unmodified. I installed an MAF adapter and cone filter and suddenly I had oil around my oil cap. I replaced the oil cap/gasket, still oil, replaced the PCV valve, still oil.

Today, I changed the oil and installed a hard intake pipe and hard intercooler pipes with a 1g BOV. I then went for a drive. I immediately noticed the BOV wasn't nearly as loud as everyone said it would be, which I'm fine with, it sounds like it's venting more volume and lower pressure.

I then noticed my boost gauge was reading 15 psi on a second gear pull.
I then spiked 16, then 17, then 18 psi on first/second pulls.

I'm running the stock T25, no BCS restrictor mod, no boost controller, stock exhaust, and NO FUEL UPGRADES. Why, oh why, did installing hard pipes and a new BOV get my boost from the factory 12 to 15, and spiking 18? And moreover why did installing a cone filter make my top end start spraying oil?

After the 18 PSI spike I had the delightful smell of burning oil and smoke from the hood, not the first time this has happened to me in a DSM.. Below is a picture and link to a video of my engine bay after the 18 pound spike. That's delicious German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 everywhere. It appears at least some of it came from the dipstick tube.

I'm figuring maybe the original PCV valve was going out so that's why I was getting oil from the oil cap, and the parts store replacement valve can't handle boost so it's done already, and with the increase in boost of course my crankcase pressure increased so that's why I'm throwing the dipstick. Sound right?

It's also possible I overfilled with oil. I let the pan drain and filter drain for about an hour each (until there was no dripping anywhere) the installed the new filter and added oil. At 4 qts the dipstick already read above the max line, I knew that couldn't be right because depending on where you go our engine takes 4.4 to 4.8 qts of oil so I added the fifth quart. I'm sure the initial spurt (now that I've had time to think about it) was due to that. That still leaves the oil cap but that's explained by bad PCV valves, so that leaves me with one question.

In that case, why oh why am I seeing 18 pound spikes?
