OH MY GOD. I don't want to blow up my car, so please help me. These pictures were taken immidiately after I pulled into the parking lot of McDonalds. I was driving with my friend and pulled up next to him at the stop light and he said "Did you know your leaking something?" and I said "Umm...No.." and he then said "Dude, your leaking ALOT" so we went a few blocks and pulled into the lot and hopped under the car and took some shots. Is this normal for my car, a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST? What should I do to stop this? It seems to be coming out of the raditor overflow, overflow? An extra hose that leads to nowhere. Thanks in advance for your help, here are the pictures:

let me know what happens with that, that is really ####ed up to not say anything about a swap,
p.s. where is the engie stamped ?
jc :dsm:

I am confussed. Is this a smaller short block with the 2.0 liter head? Cause outside of the number stamp, it "appears" to be a 2.0 turbo.

Just would like to know so I can avoid this in the future.

And, my condolances, that really bites!!

You got it. As far as I know, every GST (dont know about other models) came with the 4G63 model engine, I called up a local mitsu dealer and they ran the vin and said it was suppost to be a 4G63 engine in that car so... i dont think it is something very common to happen, hehe, but just check the tag if you have any doubts

Thanks! What a bum deal!! :| Hope you get that straightened out.

Well, I can tell you the overflowing of the fluid was from overheating.

If that really is a 1.6L, that's just ####ed up! How long does it take to spool that 14b?

UMMMMMMMMMM. that looks exactly like a 4g63, Somebody find a pic of a mirage engine because I dont think they look exactly the same.

oh and ps, that looks EXACTLY like a 4g63 from what i can tell, compare the vin on the motor to the vin on the car.. easy :) post the engine vin up here soon and i can run it for you from my office and just make sure its a 4g63 vin

Erm the engine and its parts are identical on the outside in most cases , alough the cams and inner chambers + crank shaft are different ..

Your car is comming out of the over flow for 2 diff reasons .. Radiator cap , or a fan is not working. replace with a 17pound cap .. DO NOT use a rad cap that has the red "pressure release" on it ..

probably is , i cant imagine placing a 4g61 in it .. Those 1.6t cost more money because they are actually kind of "rare" so to speak .. even though most mirage and colt people switch to 4g63's. See if the guy had the engine rebuilt.

sorry about the delay on the posts...i got ahold of the guy and he refuses to give my money back and i decided its not worth my time in court..it spools up pretty quick, i just turned the boost up a little bit *evil grin* and im gonna get a vid soon. im about the leave for the weekend but when i get back ill post the engine vin on here. i replaced the rad. cap with another stock 13lbs one and it stopped over flowing, so that was my problem :) ill have to work on getting a 17lbs one

Why? i use that one now after the 13lb spring would push coolant into the overflow.

I have the exact same problem with my Radiator Fans...one works, and then when it turns off the other goes once and stops. OMG Engine temp says it's okay.......

They are supposed to do that.

Some engine importers are offering the turbo 1.6 as a replacement for the 2.0. It bolts right in. I am looking at getting another complete engine/tranny and build them up while the original engine/tranny is in the car. The importer actually offered me the 1.6 as an alternative. He said that some people who just want the car to drive are doing this. Be careful if you take your car to a shop to have the engine replaced. Specify the 4g63t.
