Oem looking spare power outlet

I'm posting this as a solution to the fire hazard annoying in the way power outlet extension jacks and distribution blocks.

I have been running a pocket sized power inverter to keep my laptop running on longer trips and it was getting in the way of me shifting by having a power inverter hanging out of the cigarette lighter outlet. This mod only took me 20 min or less to do and costs less than $8 to do. I have showed a few people this mod and everyone I show flips out on how F@#$ing cool and great of an idea it is .

You can buy the power outlets from just about any auto store and there cheap. I have seen them for $4 at Auto zone. I just so happened to have 7 of them laying around with no clue how I obtained them

PARTS AND TOOLS NEEDED
Automotive power outlet
15 amp fuse (I used a 20 amp fuse for both outlets I have wired together on each side)
12-10ga power wire (I picked a fat wire out of a spare harness from my 1990)
female spade terminals
ring terminals
fuse block (if preferred or needed for a different source of positive power)
tin snips, drymal, open end cutter of some sort
wire stripper/crimper
1" paddle bit (stepping bit or really big drill bit)
power drill
scewdriver
10mm wrench or socket wrench

I took the rear passenger side interior panel out and popped out the little plastic cover plug. I marked the center of it and drilled a pilot hole for the paddle bit then bored the hole out in it.

I then marked the points to take notches out of the outlets case to clear the plastic covers clips. I trimmed mine with tin snips because I was in a rush to get to MOD in Bay City.

Next I ran the power wire under the the carpet by the boor with all the other wires where it would be protected and safe from abrasions. I stripped about 1/2" of insulation off each end of the wires and crimped a female spade terminal on one end and a ring terminal on the other. I bolted the ground to an existing 10mm bolt that was behind the panel for the auto seat belts. Slipped the wires threw the panel and snapped the panel back in place then replaced the plastic push snap clips that line the window, seat and one by the butt cushion.

Next I put the center part of the outlet threw the plastic cover and screwed the backing to the outlet on, connected the power wires to the new outlet, then snapped the assembly into the side panel.

Finally yesterday I ran my power wire threw the engine harness boot and bolted the ring terminal end of the wire in the fuse block on the battery for the ABS spot and put a spare 20 amp fuse in it. I'm deleting the ABS and the wire was removed because my ABS was messing up anyways. I will be getting a pic of that soon as my car is finished before it snows.

I have more electrical and wiring projects that I will be posting very soon. I had to rewire my car to accept an early model auto harness parts into a 5-speeds harness. Been fixing a hacked up engine harness as well . On to of all of that I installed a shift box but I went all out on the install of it. I know even the people who truly hate the auto's will probably like it .

I was gonna put it there but the seat belt recoil assembly was in the way. .

ya first time i got out of the car that thing would be toast. damn big feet. although i also have a extra power outlet hooked up in my 1g. i just bought one of those four plug ones and velcro'd it to the side of the center console.
