So i just got back from a 2500 mile road trip. When i left i was at 80,xxx miles and now i am at 84,xxx miles and my trip meter was saying i am getting about 600 miles per tank of gas! OMG

Also the speedo was about 3-4 MPH off, according to my GPS and radar.

I am thinking of unplugging the sensor for 2 thousand miles to equal back out the cars mileage.

Car is a 97 GST. stock wheels and tire size.

how can i fix this?

Not to be mean, but I don't see a question here...

Have someone(or do it yourself) re-calibrate the speedometer and keep an eye on the odometer in the future and I am pretty sure you will be fine...

I've never heard of unplugging the speed sensor to throw off the odometer reading though, sounds like that is too easy. Maybe someone can give some insight that has done this before...

The tires are stock size. Can this happen is the sensor is on its way out? Or maybe a short somewhere?

The speedo is not my concern...

The main problem is he fact my car is putting on tons of miles on the odometer. The trip i took was just shy of 2500 miles, and it put over 4,000 miles on the odometer...

This car has low mileage and i would like to keep it that way.

I need to fix this before i put tons of "fake" miles on my car...

On the 1g you can take the cluster out and remove the clear cover. Pull the speedo needle straight off. Set it back down a 1/4 of an inch whichever direction its off. Im sure its the same on the 2g. You cant roll an odometer on a 2g like the 1g though. If you wanted to tamper with the "mileage error".

My speedo was off 5 on my 90 and had someone show me the tricks. Quite simple. Good luck

Well i unplugged the speed sensor. The odometer is frozen, i guess i will keep it like this till i figure it out.
