Hey guys i have an odd issue with my fuel gauge. When i bought the car the po said it got messed up after he installed the denso 255. So i pulled the rear seat and pulled the whole assembly out to check movement and re timed the pump assembly with the marks on the fuel tank thinking that this was the problem. well it was still stuck on half and doesn't work. After calculating fuel capacity and mileage i filled up and today my light came on as i'm close to fill up time. I've read that the light is a seperate sender from the level unit and was just curious since i have good travel on the float rod and i'm clocked the correct way what else could it be? I have indiglo gauges and all but the needle does not move at all ever! LOL I appreciate the help guys thanks :)

Who ever put the layovers on the gauges probably took the needle off the gas hand and it no longer works, but you could try and take the whole float assembly out and lay it down until it goes all the way to full then put it back in and it should settle in the right place. If thats what you did and it still wont move I would say it was messed up by whoever put the overlays on, and the only way I personally know how to fix that issue is a new cluster.

While you have the fuel pump assembly out, let the float arm hang and see if your fuel gauge reads empty. If it doesn't, move the float by hand to see when the fuel gauge starts to move. It could be the needle on the gauge itself or the fuel level sending unit. Make sure the ignition is in the run position so that the fuel gauge gets power, be careful not to crank the vehicle with the fuel pump out.

i just found out today that my fuel needle doesnt work properly after i fitted new gauges. i went to fill gas earlier today, and it showed 1/4 of full tank. when i started the engine again after fueling, the needle barely moved above the 1/4 mark.

i know i accidently bumped sligthly into the needle, moving it abit, while i was fitting the new gauges yesterday (i also managed to dismantle the oil pressure by accident, but i managed to fit it back togheter, and it works like a charm).

can i fix the fuel needle the same way as mentioned by Dsm78?

if anyone wants to check it out before i do, try to remove the cable to the fuel tank, and turn the ignition, see if the pin moves at all. im gonna check it out soon, and will post if i figure it out, meanwhile, i hope someone got usefull tips on the mather, ### this is frustrating!

The 2g Fuel sending units are very common to go bad, My car shows from full (when is full) to 1/4 (when is empty), iit works good from full to 1/4, once it hits 1/4, it stops moving, It will stay there for a while and the light comes ON, so that's when I know is empty.
In my case, is the Fuel Sending Unit that is not working properly.

This sending unit was acting like that years ago, but it fixes itself by filling up the tank and letting it get empty as more as I can, with the float traveling all the way up and down (I guess), it started working again.

Make sure is not the sending unit that is bad, otherwise, you will swap gauges all the time and never will fix your problem.

If you end up taking the fuel hanger out of the tank, leave it connected with the switch on the ON position and play with the lever to see what the gauge does, or just use a multimeter to check the fuel sending unite to see if the signal is accurate.

in my case, its the opposite. yesterday i disconnected the cable to the tank, then i saw my needle sloooooooooooooooowly move down when i turned on the ignition, and up again when i reconnected it, but it wont move pass the quarter mark :banghead: !

guess i got to do it again a couple of times and in the worst case open up the gauges and push the needle to the top after i have filled a full tank.
