the check engine light is on, checked the reason is a o2 sensor, i really dont care about the engine light. the question is is the o2 sensor fail will cause lose housepower?

sure it could if it has a problem sensing then it will go into into open loop mode (i think might be closed loop I always get them confused) and read from a base table in the ecu this table is not made for horsepower it is made to keep the car running. i would just pull the 02 sensor and clean it up. Alot of the times it is just dirty and not failing. :dsm:

yeah if i was you i would just go ahead and buy a new sensor there not much and there easy to put back on just 4 wires and your done bro if you ever have any problems with identify any codes or etc come check out a tech article i put up http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191516 this well help you if you ever have to go through an ordeal if trying to figure out codes and there meaning's

The first thing I would check would be to see if it was dirty at all. I was throwing codes left and right for my O2 sensors. Decided to clean then up before buying new ones, just in case. Disconnected the battery for a min after cleaning them and I havent seen a light for at least 15k. Might wanna try that first.

Won't cause loss of power at WOT, but will cause all kinds of part throttle issues.

It actually can cause problems at WOT due to the bad O2 sensor messing up the Fuel trims, but hte ECU does not use the O2 during WOT.

Fuel trims don't seem to be used at WOT on my 2g. I've been down the bad O2 sensor path (and broken wiring!) before and the only time the car ran right was at WOT :)
