o2 sensor problems " Please Help Fast Going To Race Tonight"

I have DSM link on my 2g and my check engine light is on. It say that the 1st o2 sensor is bad, so I replaced it. It is still comming on. I checked the wiring and cleaned the connecters, nothing works. A loop code is on to. I was told that the 2nd O2 sensor would not make a code. Is this true? The 1st O2 sensor was over $100, the 2nd is a $100. Dont want to spend the money if i dont have to. Any help?
