O2 and Gas Pedal ?s

Okay, first off i want to say i am not a dsm guy, i mostly work on hondas and subys. My friend just got a 95 awd tsi with 113000 miles. He like most ill informed ricers is running a to atmosphere bov. He has been getting about 10 miles to the gallon. There is think black carbon buildup all over the bumper and muffler. He has a CEL. Without even checking the code i'm 90% sure he needs an O2 sensor. We went to Checker and they said they have the front one, and the back is a universal that has to be spliced in, my questions are these:

1. Is the universal OK, has anyone had problems or will it work. (splicing is no problem)

2. I am doing both regardless if one is working or not, is there anything else that should be done while i'm doing the O2 sensors?

While driving his car i noticed the gas pedal feels EXTREAMLY stiff and unnatural, i searched but didn't find anything relating to the gas pedal, is this adjustable or vac. assisted? does anyone know how we might go about fixing this?

Sorry to post such a book for my first post but any help would be appriciated.

First:
1st, go to autozone and check the CEL for free.

2nd, hook the BOV back up

3rd, go get the front 02 from MItsu or JNZ (its about $4 more than Checkers version) and forget about the rear one. if you have to use www.vfaq.com to build an 02 eliminator for <$5.

4th, change the plugs. his are probably fouled

5th, enjoy and consider using some MCCC to clean the carbon out of the combustion chambers.

As far as the gas pedal, I don't know. Linkage? is the Tbody unnaturrally stiff also?
