Well I was looking for a manual boost controller to turn up the boost on my car. I really didn't want to spend more than $50, hell even $20 on it since the design on these are all the same and personally know someone with a cheapo one that has been working fine.

So off I go on ebay. There were those different colored ones that were dirt cheap a while back, but now they are no where to be found. This was the same cheapo one I mentioned that a friend of mine is using fine.

The cheapest one that was littered on ebay were these and were all about $20 shipped on average:

I searched here to see if anyone knew how these worked and how they are setup since it has that extra adapter. Couldn't find a thread regarding these or any info on them, so I was out to look for something more familiar.

I finally landed upon a seller who went by nxsmotorsports. They were selling what looked to be the simple plain jain ball/spring MBC. It was $19 shipped, and there were some info on this site regarding it, and people saying they got it for cheaper. I contacted the seller to ask why the price went up. The seller was very helpful and returned emails quickly. They explained that because of the higher ebay and paypal fees, they had to charge more.

But get this! They offered to give me a dsm owner discount of $5 if purchased directly! How awesome is that. So they sent a paypal request and my order was off.

I quickly received it in 2 days shipped via USPS. It was packaged in a small padded envelope with detailed instructions.

The instructions were very clear, there is no way someone could get the install wrong or diagnose why they were having problems.

I hooked it up to my 95 GSX with ported MHI big16g and supporting mods except stock turboback using the connection on the wastegate and the jpipe for the boost source. Went for the first pull and it was hitting 20lbs. I was just going for 15. So with a few turns counter clock wise, the boost held at 15 with no spikes or creep. I will see how this goes after I get a turboback.

Attached are the pictures of the instructions and the product itself.

knochgoon24 gets credit for these detailed pictures of the unit:

Yes I've contemplated on making my own, but the parts it seems would have cost similar if not more to how much I got it, and my time.

Here is a link to the seller's store:

as you can see they are $19 shipped, but the seller said for DSM owners we can get them for $15 shipped!! Just contact them and mention that.

Got the brass one on the bottom and I also got the cheapo one on the top. The brass one works GREAT. that colored one sucks and it either was wide open or no boost.

Hmm, I'll have to pick one of these up. I can't justify spending $140 for a MBC.
Thanks for the post.

I also have the homemade looking one at the bottom; it is my second one because the big bolt comes out unless you tighten it real good(beware) but other than that i works great.

Thats because you have to tighten the nut back down on the brass part and the bolt goes no were.

I know that you should up the pressure by a 1/4 of a turn at a time. I did a half of a turn and went to 20 psi on stock fuel system. LOL

I bought one of the ebay cheapo's and it wouldn't crank in or out so I called them and they said I would have to pay to ship it back for a new one and pay for the new one to be shipped back. The hell with that. I ordered 3 more of them because they were only $8 for all the vaccuum lines and T fittings I was getting ### they were the only nice things in the package. I just ended up getting the Home Depot Racing MBC ;)

I use this same boost controller.. So far so good at 29psi. Make sure you tighten the lock nut, i didnt and mine vibrated out and fell out.. Hit the gas and 35psi hit, LOL.

One down side to this one though. I used a pair of pliers to hold the bolt while I tightened the nut down. The pliers scratched through the protective coating on the bolt and now it has rust spots on it. If you use the allen wrench like you're supposed to, this won't happen.

What is the length and diameter of that compression spring?
I'm think I'm just going to buy a bunch of the parts and make a bunch of these and see how cheap they can be made if you buy the parts in bulk. Then, I'll probably throw them up in the classifieds section.

After running some rough calculations, I can make these for approx. $4.95 each! If I buy enough materials to make 30 "Home Depot" MBC. Plus cost of time to make them, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Yea, I was looking at the springs. The spring constants is the main thing that you need to get right. There seems like there would be a fine line between spring constant and length. I might have to run some calculations on that one to figure out a good constant. Luckily I still have my physics book...

I just bought one this morning from nxsmotorsports. I emailed him this morning and about 30 mins later he emailed me back saying dsmtuners gets $5 discount bringing the shipped price to $15!

Meh I still like Buschur Racing's MBC. Those notches on the knob tells you exactly what psi you want to run and it runs it at that. Just pop the hood once, adjust, and go.

well based on this thread I went ahead and contacted them and spoke with them (Phil) and got the discount and paid them the 15 and its gonna be sent tomarrow! :) he (they?) is located it GA only one state away from me :) I am in Florida. I'll let you all know how well it works!

Ok love this company...have nothing but good to say about dealing with them....friendly fast responses even through email...got the mbc through usps priority mail yesterday put it on today and im totally pleased with this product and for 15 bucks to my door! Cant beat that at all:thumb::thumb::thumb:

and another thing...no boost drop off issues with the 13g....can boost any dam number i want (well, up to 23 pounds cause thats what it was hitting when I first put it on) and it never drops off....maybe its the controller....maybe its the L on my td04HLLOL its the super 13gWTF

I bought one of these about a year ago. Holds boost perfectly so far. Pliers or not the knob/bolt is going to surface rust. Good tip is everytime you wipe your dipstick when you check your oil, rub it on the knob of the bolt. I found that small adjustments on it make a great deal of difference, be careful with it if you have fuel cut disabled.

I just bought one as well, great customer service, another cheap item that works(just like the ebay fmic and ebay exhausts) for dsmser's
