Numbers on bolt heads

Does anyone know what the numbers on the heads of bolts mean? I assume it is some strength rating, but it isn't like the 8.8, 12.9, etc that I normally see on metric fasteners. Does anyone know what standard is used on DSM hardware, or is it a standard at all? It would be helpful to know so equivalently strong hardware can be sourced without visiting the dealer.
