not sure if my water pump broke or not

Ok I was on my way to work today and I pulled out form my house and i noticed that my car was making a weird sound kinda like a grinding sound, but it wasnt very loud at all. On may way to work i stoppped and talked to one of my friens on the way to work. So i killed my car and got out, and when I got out his dad noticed that their was water comeing from under my car after i killed. I leaked almost all of the water of the motor, I think what caused this problem would be my bad harmonic balancer.

Harmonic balancer would not cause a leak of antifreeze . Where did it leak from ? Was it overheated ? What work was done recently ? Was it alot of liquid , like 2 gallons ( I think that is capacity) ? Other symptoms ? Temp gauge reading at time ? Did you check your lower rad hose ? Pep #### valve on bottom of rad ? Heater hoses at firewall ?

Where exactly was the water at? Your harmonic balancer is your crankshaft pulley. Is the rubber inside of it deteriating/cracked? Do you see it move if the cars running, or yourself.. Unless it was really loose and not driving your ps/waterpump i dont know how it would effect it. You should've thrown some dummy lights if your ps/waterpump/alternator wasn't going..

The harmonic balancer wobbles really bad and I got a new one to put on just didn't get aroung to it. The water pump pully never wobbled befor and know it does. The water looked like it was coming from the water pump because it was dripping ont the top corner of the harmonic balancer. The water only started dripping after I shut the car off because their is no water behind my car.

if its dripping from the belt area its more than likely the water pump. how long has it been since its been replaced?

I don't believe it ever has been replace the car has 110000 and it is a 92.

Here is my suggestion to you my friend . Since you obviously need to replace the crank pulley . You should go ahead and do the timing belt and components . That will replace the water pump . Also look at the balance shaft removal . Checkout Vfaq.com for all those directions and knowledge . Alot of work now or more later . But in time it all has to be done .

Hmm, i guess maybe your crank pulley could've pulled on the waterpump enough.. Dunno, haven't seen it happen in the few cases of pulley split I've replaced. You say your water pump pulley wobbles? or the p/s.. Can you move it by hand in and out? Go put on your new pulley real quick and see what happens.

Will do that tomorrow had to go to work so didn't have time to mess with it and get dirty. By the way how much do you think it would cost for a water pump and the timing belt kit.
