Well right now I am looking at a 1G turbo. Not running No BOV or Valve cover and no timing belt, Guy got it in a trade from someone that owed him money. He used to be heavy into DSMs but moved down to Hondas WTF

I believe he has a timing belt he is going to throw in and Poss. a Valve cover. He wants $400 I will offer $300-350.

Is this a good deal?? It is hard to find Turbo DSMs in even crappy shape around here for a decent price.

If the T-belt snapped all I would need it a new head right? Thanks for any help. :thumb: :thumb: :talon: :dsm: :laser:

It seems to me like a good buy if you have another 3k handy to turn around and invest right into it. if the motor threw timing you MIGHT get lucky and only have to replace the valves. on the more realistic sence your probably gonna have to rebuild the motor. bov and valve cover are simple to find. hell i have like 5 valve covers at the house LOL

hope that helps

I have the patience some know how, willingness to learn, Friends who are mechanics regular money flow.

Is $3000 a relalistic price for repairs if most is done by myself?? I hat my N/T to drive daily.

Alos if the Tbelt broke what is the probability that I just need a new head rather than a whole new rebuild??

Also I see places that sell rebuild kits. Is that really a complete engine rebuild kit??? TIA! Sorry for the stupid Questions. :coy:

BTW it is a 1991 would that make any difference? I like pop-ups! :thumb:

You won't know until you pull the head to find out if the pistons were damaged. If you just want to get it running and take your chances you can even just get another stock 1g head put it on and see what happens. I'm not sure if it is the same on the 1g's but I used to do that all the time on my Starion's with the 2.6L engine. Timing would slip and screw up the valves so I would remove the head and put a junk yard or used head on and keep going. They ended up burning alot of oil though. Not sure if that was a side effect or just hard driving.

If it is a '91 then you will need the appropriate re-build kit for the 6-bolt. If you choose a rebuild kit and they don't give a complete list of whaqt it includes e-mail and ask. You should get your internals and gaskets to be able to put it back together.

If you know a good machine shop it wouldn't hurt to get them to do some work on the block and head. If you do that you might even be able to get the block bored over and get larger pistons and get their opinion on rebuild kits.

I always like to get my block cleaned, dipped and planed, same with the head before I start a rebuild.

Good Luck..

More importantly, if its the original engine, it has a 6 bolt, WAY more important than some pop-ups.

I was kidding about the pop-ups. Do all the 91s have 6bolts?

So I went to look at it and talked to the quy. The head looks to be ok. the exhaust is at it timeing mark.

How should the rocker react when you wiggle them if the timing belt DID snap?? :coy:

i would offer 250 bucks. just because your going to need allot of time and money to put into it.

mine had a blown water pump and i got mine for 150 bucks.
thats just my 2cents.

LOL that is exactly the price I was thinking. yet they are kinda hard to find around here.

think about this to, all that small stuff you need to get it to run. its all going to add up.

like mine did and I'm still fixing it LOL.

i need a gas tank and sending unit  and you think i could find one thats not rusted. :| no.

but yeah i would offer 250 at the most.

since the guy was heavley into dsm you should just ask him if you could pop the head off before you buy. i mean tbelt is off. so is valve cover. theres really not that much more to do besides some randome 12mm and 14mm bolts to get the head off. then he would have a better idea of what he had 2.

i forgot ive rebuilt a few engines and it always ends up being cheaper for me to buy the parts for the rebuild myself. rebuild kits normally come with topline garbage and crappy headgaskets. Ive watched topline rings snap when trying to install them on pistons. Ive also watched conitech tbelts strip all there teeth off with less that 2000 miles on the engine. completley randome.

yaaaaaaaaaaa. thats really funny now that i think about it. hahahahhahah. ya i thing im going to go get a civic or sumthin to man forget running anything faster than a 15 who need speed when you have b16 spoon apc stuff ROFL
