First off let me start by saying, I have looked around and can't find what I need...though it might just be evading me....
I bought a 91 tsi awd two weeks ago as a toy car and am going to start doing some serious work on it. I bought it with the engine not running, the previous owner broke the timing belt and tagged the valves. I am going to use this as an excuse to build the engine. I was wondering what these engines are able to handle with stock internals. My goal at this point in time is to hit around 350 whp with similar torque specs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this and still make it a decent daily driver? Right now I'm looking at getting the OEM valves and new valve guides, wiesco pistons (maybe lowering compression to 8.5:1), new head gasket, act street disc and 2600 pressure plate, and maybe an act flywheel. What am I missing?

1G turbo 2.0 is 7.8:1. I don't see the need to build the bottom end unless it was also damaged which is pretty rare. If there are no signs of damage with the block after you remove the head, the stock bottom can handle beyond 400whp.

To get 350awhp from a 16g you would definitly need some cam's. Look at some 50 trims. And all supporting mods

Depending on the amount of money you want to spend there are a lot of things you can do. One thing I wish I could go back and do over with my rebuild would be a 2.3 stroker kit. That way when you get tired of your current horse power you could put a t/3 turbo with little lag. You might want to look at a rebuild kit. When I rebuilt my motor I got a kit which included HP oil pump bearings and gaskets. You will also want to make sure your trans is in good shape to handle all your cars new found power. The ACT 2600 is a great clutch I have it and love it. Its true your leg gets a little tired, but its not that bad. Good luck with your project. Just remember things are probably going to go wrong so you might want to keep a side budget and always plan on your rebuilt to take a little longer than expected.

Well not to sound like I have a real deep pocket, but money is not the first thing I'm worry about with this... I'm willing to spend the money to make it right... But again my main concern is, what can the stock internals handle... I just want to get all the parts setup correctly the first time around...

Already answered it.

As long as the system is properly tuned.

I am currently using the stock rods with topline pistons and have not run into any problems. I beleive, but don't quote me on this, as long as you are getting enough fuel you should be ok. Another thing that I really wanted to add, if you have not heard yet, is to change the timing belt tensioner. Very important!! Hope someone can help with the internals question better for you.

Take a look into Precisions SCM 5031. Here are a few reasons why:

1. It's a 50trim turbo so you'll see a quick spool.
2. You won't have to run as much boost as you would with a 16g. So less worry of knock.
3. Great price. Take a look at Slowboyracing.com
