Resolved Noob here, researching Turbo Upgrade to 300hpish?

Hey everyone, been around for awhile, searching the forums, and have never really posted anything. I currently have a mostly stock '99 rs that I am loathing that I bought a couple years back (The reason I have joined this forum :thumb:). This summer I will be leaving for 3 months to work, and am going to come back with a fair chunk of change. Will be selling my rs, to buy a stock gs-t or GSX if I could find one within 300 miles. My ultimate goal is to get a 2g up to around 310ish Hp as a daily driver. Willing to spend some cash on quality parts, but I'm sure the parts I have compiled are way more expensive/over the top than necessary. Looking for some info on what else I will need other than these:

Again, looking for advice on what parts to change, what other parts to add, experience with certain brands parts, what is bad/good. And what Sort of parts I would need to upgrade both on the Bottom and Top end of a stock gs-t for 300-310 hp.
 
Is this true?? I am getting my GSX ready to shoot for 400awhp here very shortly and have been having concerns about my rewired 190. If this is true I will jump on a 255.

If you rewired the fuel pump directly to the battery then you will need a afpr unless you rewired it along side the factory harness.

Look up the fsm electrical volume and rewire the one relay side to see full voltage and leave the resistor aside alone.
 
I guess I should clarify.. I have an Evo 8 pump (flows slightly less than a 190 I know). If I will need an AFR to run a 255 (which is what I originally thought) I plan on just purchasing a rewire kit for $30 as opposed to a $200+ setup with a 255 and AFR. If I can run a 255 without an AFR I will do that. Thoughts?

The evo pump only flows 160. If you have a 2gb with the two relay fuel system you can run a 255 no problem but if you rewire it you need to rewire into the relay system and NOT the standard way.
 
First off, I would like to apologize for my previous posts about the dual voltage fuel system. I was wrong. My assumption in the split mpi/fuel pump relay in the 97-99 corresponded with the change over into the new system seen in the newer cars.

Did a little researching and dug into the 97-99 factory wiring manual. After spending a good amount of time reading the diagrams the 2gb dsms do run a standard single voltage system.

Again I do apologized for spreading this missinformation based on my assumptions.

I don't think we ever met in person, but I used to be on whidbey all the time and saw your car quite a few times I used to have a panda 2g with 2gb front. And I think you helped me out with a problem in the past. Sucks you would leave your car behind, I'm guessing the only reason to come back would be to visit?

I thought you were looking for stock? And what's your budget for car + parts?

Haha I am looking for stock, just saw that add and didn't know if it was legit LOL. But the add was around the hp rating so I thought I would post it. Budget for car+parts is around 8-10k probably depending on how much I come back with this summer.

I just thought with even a 190 you needed the afpr. But if you running an Evo 16g, I would most likely be fine running a 190 with a S16g. But I wanted to overshoot my goal of 300 hp in terms of parts a little for comfort haha.
 
You don't think you will want more power in the future? If you do, might as well plan ahead now. Just think about it, since it seems you have quite a bit of money to play with. You can easily obtain your goals and more with that cash.
Before you do buy the dsm, post it on here and let others look at the ad. And if you can bring a local dsmer with knowledge that's even better.

Now that I'm finding out how well made this engine is, i'm starting to see why people get power hungry with this car. MORE MORE MORE power! haha
 
I don't want to spend a fortune on the car. The less mods the better, that way I can learn and do it myself. I would rather find a bargain for the car, and spend a lot more on nice parts, than the car be nice already, and cost more haha. And yeah, I can find the GSX it's just I don't trust a lot of the cars of CL. And they tend to be quite a bit more expensive.

It happens to most of us LOL. Especially when you get to the track and want to cut more time off and have buddies running faster times than you, you just want more and to catch up. But make sure you do it all correctly and have all supporting mods, but from what youve been saying do far, that isn't going to be a problem.
 
I'm still learning, alll about engines in general, and how cars work. But if i'm going to be building up a car, I want to do it myself first of all so I understand how and why everything works, and then to know that it was done properly and that it will run safely. I don't want to buy a car and just have it blow up on me even though the add said it was all new haha. I think the biggest problem with people (and it does not seem this way on this forum) is that they want a nice car but they don't care about learning anything about it's mechanics or taking care of it. If you want a quality car, learn how to fix/repair/upgrade/and maintain yourself. I'm super excited about learning how to tune, as I love working with computer programs as well, especially if they will be giving me real life results right then haha.
