What's causing this noise?!?!? I'm just wanting to get an idea of what exactly it is that needs to be fixed or replaced before I actually tear into it. So, if you've experienced this, or you know exactly what it is, fill a brother in. :D

Damn thats loud paul i would try some grease along the channels other than that i dont think its the motor, but the channel on the rear or by the front by the mirror is drying out. Is it only when its cold?

sheesh that sounds awful! try removing the whole door panel and greasing up some of the moving parts that lift the glass with some oil. i did it to mine and alot of the squeeking/screeching went away. WD-40 works great too.

but mine is a roll up/roll down kind of door.

Yeah, I don't think it's the motor either. So, is it common for the channels to dry out and promote friction? I didn't think 2G's even had channels like 1G's do. I can't remember how the window assembly looks/operates though.

I'm assuming it would do it with any temperature, but I wouldn't know yet. This is a new 2G that I just picked up this month.

Yeah, tell me about it. The windows on my '99 are super quiet, so I've never had to address an issue like this before. I was hoping to nail down the issue before I pulled the door panel and started lubing anything and everything. But in retrospect, it may not hurt to just lube down everything. It's probably never been done before on this car.

Anybody got any pictures of the power window assembly inside the 2G door?

So, #4 and #5 are the guide tracks?

I think the noise has something to do with the window riding and causing friction on something. I'm pretty sure it's not in the scissor lift part of the system.

Yes Paul, #4 and #5 are the guide tracks. You might have some luck lubing those, but now that I listen to the video at home (didn't have sound earlier at work:shhh:) it sounds to me like the window is almost sticky and vibrating just right on the rubber trim on the inside or outside of the window. I've had something similar to that and after it drove me crazy for a week or two I finally discovered MY cure which was actually to just clean the window inside and out with some glass cleaner.:ohdamn: Anyway, good luck with that noisy thing.:thumb:

Update; It seems that it fixed itself. I'm pretty sure these windows hadn't been used in a while before I bought the car. They've finally quieted down now that I'm using them all the time. The recent warmer weather seems to have helped as well. For good measure, I'll probably end up lubing everything up next time I have the door panel off, but for now, I'm happy the problem seems to have fixed itself.
