Sidney,
My car won't stop overheating. I split a hose yesterday and replaced it, now it won't stop running hot. I drive for about 5-10 minutes and then the water starts boiling. I removed the thermostat and it still runs hot. I just don't get it. Any suggestions?

Chemistry is actually my strong point and is what I am majoring in. But, just to clarify, a gas will heat up due to molecules colliding with eachother, not because they move faster :p.

Anyway, back to the problem at hand I burped the system a bunch of times using a few different methods, the bubbles just never went away. Here's some pics of my HG, no conclusive tears in it anywhere (if anybody would like to see more detail, i have them but as far as i could see, theres nothing wrong with it). I did run a compression test before i pulled the head and that cylinder ran 130, not great by anymeans but above the service limit. everything else was 145+.

well if the gasket looks good and there are no cracks or tears, then i am thinkin that you may have a warped head, and it would do the same thing as a blown head gasket.

you should take your head in and get it resurfaced or milled. that will take care of any uneveness that is there. i would still suggest replacing the headgasket just to be safe.

shane :dsm:

p.s. when i said that the atoms move faster to create heat, i meant that when they are movin faster they will increase how much they collide with other atoms. not jus move faster. LOL

Yeah, i'm replacing the headgasket for sure, probably a full rebuild if the bottom end has to come apart and I will be gettin the head milled. I still think its a crack in the block though....but I found a block in BC, and its only gonna be about 160 to get it to my door.
