I've been fighting my Eclipse all summer...First the timing belt, then the no start, then the tranny urinating on my girl's dad's driveway...Now I'm in a new quandry...I have a strong feeling that after all the surgery this car has been through, the problem is the last thing I'm about to check...You guessed it: PISTONS! Earlier this year, I had purchased a new oil pan gasket. I put my DSM on jackstands, drained the oil, and began the removal procedure of the said pan...When I first started the disassembly, the bolts came out like butter! No stripping, no toughies...NOTHING! I made my way from the front (keeping track of the two little bolts near our timing belt!) and worked my way to the tranny. On my last bolt (one of the two between the tranny and the low part of the oil pan) I found a rounder! It didn't want to budge. I've tried using American sockets(sometimes they bail me out of "rounder" situations), I've tried tightening then loosening, and I've tried hammering the sockets on with a small ball-peen. All attempts have failed.
All sockets were quarter inch and all were 6-point and all couldn't even give the rougue bolt a "tiny-little" tittie twister! Now if my problem lies within compression, how am I gonna get this oil pan off? I don't think there's room to get a drill in there for an easy-out, or even the easy out itself! Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have a good solution? Even if the pistons aren't the problem, I still need to replace this oil pan gasket before I end up on the side of the road...AGAIN!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance! PEACE!!!
